One juror says yes, she thinks so. Another says she thinks she can be fair. Both are mothers

Woman say she's been trying to have a baby & the thought of serving on this jury is stressful. She's crying

Tampa Bay Times Live ‏@TBTimesLive 25s
Another woman says she can't be impartial bc of infertility. "I'm sitting here knowing I can never have them (children)."

Court giving jurors a 20 minute break. Will be back at 11:10am. Attorneys are still in court asking for specific jurors to be excused based on their answers so far.

Good morning Jacct.:seeya:
Tweets so appreciated. Thanks.

Just arrived and I see a break is commencing. Oh well. Really interested in this trial so will be back. Just want to add, I have formed no opinions, have read nothing about the killings, and only know the basic details. Open mind, I hope.

We have had a week of winds here in the high desert which means powerful dust storms to those unaware of desert life. Dust is everywhere! Winds are winding down a bit today but visibility hasn't cleared up much. Need this to be the last day!!!!!!!!!

Not to derail the thread, but it just occurred to me that Judge Battles presided over the DeeDee Moore murder trial of lotto winner Abraham Shakespeare.

Judge in lottery trial storms out, tells Dee Dee Moore, "You are to STOP!"

Thank you! I thought I recognized his name but couldn't place where. He was very good in this trial. He kept Dee Dee's histrionics to a minimum, at least as much as he could. He sent the jurors out several times until she was under control.

Jurors coming back. The two crying jurors were excused, the judge asked a bailiff to discreetly let them know. Several other jurors were also excused for cause.

Hi Chelly :seeya:

Ladies and gentlemen, children invoke a broad spectrum of emotion..." prosecutor begins

Prosecution asking all jurors if having children will affect their ability to be fair and impartial. Two jurors say yes.

Prosecutor: "No one is going to suggest to you that service on this jury will be a breeze."

Erin Maloney ‏@ErinOnTV 34s
Juror: "My education is a problem. I only finished the 10th grade." Attorney: "That's not a problem for jury service, sir."

Tampa Bay Times Live ‏@TBTimesLive 27s
Juror: "If premeditated can be done in a few seconds, how can you ever have a non-premeditated murder?”

Belated :tyou: JACCT!

Been watching the stream but sometimes I get distracted, it is nice to have the tweets to recap things I did not catch :)

Thank you Florida and judge for allowing us to view voir dire!

Is there a live stream for jury selection?

  • #590
OK I had stream muted turned it back on everyone is cracking up!
What did I miss? :dunno:

ETA- I found it, never mind :giggle:

Prosecutor says there has to be intent to kill. That "can take place very shortly, or over the term of months."

Tampa Bay Times Live ‏@TBTimesLive 18s
Another great question. Juror asks prosecutor: You don't have to prove motive, so then why are lots of cases about motive?

Tampa Bay Times Live ‏@TBTimesLive 42s
Juror mentions George Zimmerman case. "That was all about why it happened, as opposed to what."

Tampa Bay Times Live ‏@TBTimesLive 25s
“There is no defense that would justify that situation," juror says, acknowledging he can't be impartial.

Prosecutor asks if anyone will have a problem being impartial, four people say they cannot.

Yes, the banter between the juror and attorney was amusing. They exchanged some funny moments. It added levity and that juror had a great personality. The juror was joking about his unhappy marriage, of course. He would be great to have on a jury, imo.

Juror: "I don’t think Ms. Schenecker woke up and said, "Hey today’s the day I’m going to kill my children."

Actually I think she did. From her journal and emails that have been published she planned this is advance. When she purchased the gun she didn't know about the 3 day waiting period. She wrote in her journal that day that the massacre would have to wait.

Oh boy! Hope that gets into evidence. (Still trying to keep open mind.)

Thanks jacct for all the tweets.

I have been trying to listen all week, although it has been boring at times. The excuse for getting off are hard to listen to.

Today seems more interesting.

Hi everyone =)

Posting to mark my spot. This one should be interesting folks.

This trial is in my area. The local cable network is airing this trial in it's entirety so I get to watch it on tv instead of my computer. I haven't watched a trial on TV since CA's trial in Orlando.

Looks like they are just about to start up again.
