After searching Duval Co records, it looks like his sister filed a petition to have him declared deceased last year.

Additionally, it appears that he had a large sum of private student loan debt that his dad co-signed on ($100k). He defaulted on the loan April 2020.

Private student loans are the worst and the interest rates are high. They are typically a last resort after exhausting federal student loan options. He took out $100k+ within a year and the repayment on that would have been overwhelming. Only speculation but I wonder if it’s possible he wasn’t aware of these loans…

Interestingly, his dad also had a large business loan ($200k) default for which he gave a deposition a month after Carl’s car was found.

I knew Mark in high school and he was a very good student who received a massive full-ride scholarship to the private university he ended up attending. He had no reason to lie about this because he could’ve easily gone to any of the top in-state universities he also got into. I find it very strange that he had $100k+ in private student loans.
