They're going for sympathy, not for him, but for the children. Trying to try and make the jury believe that he could still be a father from prison and that it would be a shame for his children to have to not have him around even from prision.

Guess if i was a juror, i would be wondering why the mom isnt on the stand pleading for her childrens fathers life......

Joseph Smith is not only a felon he is a stupid felon. They introduced a letter he wrote to another inmate (this month while the trial is going on) where he says if his brother comes to visit him in jail he would break his jaw. Brotherly love!!!!! Then he talks about how to incapacitate a guy by punching him in the throat and then murdering him. Of course, all this is while he is on NO drugs.....so that little theory just went out the window.

The jury must be chomping at the bits to give him the death penalty. Incredible......just incredible! His defense attorneys must be cringing.

The ex GF from 1984 got on my nerves, she seem so damn happy to be there, like she was defending someone special.

And shes been corresponding with him the last few years since he's been in jail? Her husband must be an idioit.:furious:

Couldn't agree more. You know, I watched CTV yesterday since I had the day off. Had to turn it off though as the coverage of this trial was making me ill. The witnesses the defense were putting on during this phase was a freaking joke. Carlie's family must commended for having to sit through and listen to this . I saw the GF and showing the prom pictures. Had to turn it off after that. Carlie will never go to her prom. :banghead:

I have been watching all the coverage of this trial---also just shaking my head about the people the defense chose to put up there to try to "soften" this jerk's image---agree to all the comments that it makes me sick!! (shades of the Peterson trial, eh?) There is NO defense for this sick jerk!!

Carlie's bio Dad chose not to be in the courtroom while all these supporters were up there blathering about Smith's love of animals, his children, etc----he said there was nothing anyone could say that he personally wanted to hear---and, just this minute, Carlie's Mom got up and left the courtroom while the defense attorney is giving his spiel---good for you, Susan!

The defense has to say "something" to try to mitigate what this supreme jerk did, but I would suggest to the defendant that he should be ready to hear "DEATH"---that's the way I would vote if I were on this jury!

Couldnt agree more.. I am still steamed how the ex GF smiled at the pictures and memory of the prom and times with him.. yuck.. does she not think of a beautiful l;ittle girl, raped,strangled from behind and dragged on her side( likely before he strangled her IMO) to her shallow grave!! ?
