DELAND-AREA SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION; VICTIM, PERSON OF INTEREST MISSING

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early-morning shooting incident in the DeLand area. The victim and a person of interest in the investigation are missing.

Deputies responded around 3:40 a.m. Sunday to 611 Margaret Street, DeLand, after a report of a shooting that resulted from a verbal altercation. The shooting victim, identified as 44-year-old Carlos Manzanares of DeLand, was no longer there when deputies arrived.

Detectives have identified and interviewed one person of interest in the shooting, 69-year-old Reinaldo Martinez (DOB 11/17/1949) but are continuing to investigate and seek additional information.

Another person of interest in the investigation is 45-year-old Reinaldo Martinez Jr. (DOB 10/17/1973), who has not been located or interviewed at this time. It’s believed Martinez Jr. might be in the New Smyrna Beach area. His photo is attached.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Manzanares or Martinez Jr. is asked to call 911.

Volusia deputies investigate DeLand shooting where victim, person of interest missing

Deputies responded to 611 Margaret Street near DeLand after a report of a shooting investigators believe was part of an argument. The victim was identified as Carlos Manzanares, 44, of DeLand. He was not on scene when deputies arrived, Gant said.

Court records state that Manzanares was arrested in August 2011 by DeLand police on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives identified and interviewed one person of interest in the shooting, 69-year-old Reinaldo Martinez, but continue to seek additional information, Gant said.

Martinez’s son, Reinaldo Martinez Jr., 45, another person of interest, has not been located and is believed to be in the New Smyrna Beach area, investigators said.

Martinez Jr. has a record of retail theft and in 2014 violated his probation for petty theft when he tested positive for use of cocaine, according to court records.
