Details of Disappearance
Logan was last seen at a party in DeLeon Springs, Florida on April 29, 2002. She has never been heard from again. A few days after her disappearance, her purse, with everything in it, was found on the road near her home in the vicinity of the 300 block of south Salisbury Avenue in DeLand, Florida.

Logan was planning to complete a high-school equivalency degree at Daytona Beach Community College in 2002. She had also started a job at the Duvall Home, where she assisted developmentally disabled residents. She is described as a friendly, outgoing person.

Logan's disappearance is being treated as suspicious, as she left all of her clothing behind and her family says it is uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning.

Some agencies state Logan was last seen at her residence. DeLand police are investigating.

DELAND -- Just up from the intersection of Voorhis and Delaware avenues, a fading couch rots outside an abandoned, broken-windowed house. A rusted refrigerator lies among the overgrown weeds, the bottles, shoes and trash.

This is where the last firm evidence of Cawana Logan's existence was found. Someone noticed her pocketbook here a week after she went missing April 29, 2002. The 18-year-old told her grandmother she'd be back later. No one has heard from her since.

It's particularly agonizing when someone vanishes, Cawana's family said. The pain throbs long past the time you really ought to be getting on with things, long past the time hope seems worthwhile. But how can you give up on someone you love when there's still a chance? So you keep on hoping.

The pain was even more acute three weeks ago, the one-year anniversary of Cawana's disappearance. Cawana's aunt, Mary Pettis, couldn't sleep. Cawana's grandmother, who raised the girl since she was 6, couldn't get it out of her mind that she was on her way home. "I find myself coming out, looking both ways," Nettie Logan said. "Do I see her coming home?"

"I just wish we knew if she was dead," said Pettis, 42, a personal caregiver for mentally disabled people. "Sometimes you feel like you're going to break."
