“A woman who police say died after being drugged and raped in a Miami Beach hotel room was visiting Florida from the Philadelphia suburbs. Two North Carolina men face charges in the case. Christine Englehardt of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, died Thursday morning after being found at the Albion Hotel on Miami Beach, police in Florida said. She was 24 years old.”

“Investigators say Collier and Taylor, both from North Carolina, met Englehardt at a restaurant. Collier, in an interview with detectives, said he and Taylor wanted to have sex with Englehardt, and walked with her out of the restaurant, according to the affidavit of probable cause for his arrest. While the group walked, Collier gave her a “green pill” that he believed was Percocet, a powerful opioid painkiller.

Surveillance footage from Englehardt’s hotel showed the three arriving not long after, the affidavit said.

The men sexually assaulted her and left about an hour later, stealing Englehardt’s credit card, cash, and cellphone, the affidavit said. Taylor was seen using her credit card at a nearby liquor store and was carrying her cellphone when arrested.”

This reminds of the Katie Autry case. She attended a fraternity party and once back at the dorm, two men assaulted her and set her on fire.

It is more likely that the “green pill” was slipped into the victim’s beverage at the restaurant, with the perpetrators following her out and waiting for the drug to take effect. It is less likely that the victim would have accepted an unknown pill from strangers while walking - or in any situation. Collier’s account may be self-serving, altered from reality to add complicity of the victim.

What people don’t realize about the so-called Spring Break madness that affects Miami Beach is that many of the visitors are not students at all - the anarchic atmosphere attracts people looking for opportunities to commit crimes, like these suspects.

Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 24, are accused of drugging and raping the woman. They remain behind bars on charges of sexual battery, burglary and credit card fraud.

Still have not seen anything about a determination of cause of death or decision on whether charges will be upgraded. Wonder what's going on here.

- Defense motion to keep surveillance footage and recorded conversations (which could potentially contain admissions & confessions) under seal denied, but judge gave them leave to appeal that decision. Christine Englehardt death: Judge denies defense motion in spring break rape, drugging case

- No seeing anything about cause of death. Maybe someone w criminal background could chime in, because my MOO guesses are (1) alcohol poisoning (2) aspiration of vomit (3) drug poisoning (4) combination of some/all. Would add’l charges depend on what substance(s) caused which harm(s) and who supplied them?
