Circumstances of Recovery: The decedent was found floating in a canal near Copeland Grade Road and State Road 841 around 7 p.m. on July 19, 1982, in the Everglades by Collier County deputies on patrol with the Everglades City Substation. An autopsy revealed the man was shot several times in the face. Police believe the man was killed elsewhere and his body later dumped in the canal. Because the body was found on federal park land, both the Collier County Sheriff's Office and the FBI were tasked with investigating the murder. Authorities believe the man's body had been in the canal for a week or more prior to being found.
