I see a suspect was caught in the murder of that woman in Hollywood. It seems she was killed over a dispute over money and services not rendered.

How this relates to Dan Markel's murder is this: I think this shows that when a person is murdered by someone close, the police can hone in on who did it pretty quickly a high percentage of the time. This is the exact reason I continue to believe that Dan wasn't murdered by someone who knew him well or was close to him--since the case is still unsolved. Dan's murder still has the feel to me of a random murder due to fun/delusion or someone who knew Dan tangentially who Dan didn't know in return.

Or someone was paid to kill him. Another reason why no connection found, cash and a stranger to Dan.

Last night, Greta Van Susteren had a segment about this unsolved crime. She spoke to a reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat. There was nothing new to report, but Greta did speak about recent family issues.

Mystery in professor's murder, one year later

One year after FSU professor Dan Markel's execution-style murder, police believe he was targeted. But no one knows why"

Maybe somebody has asked this before but: Anybody have any idea what the white thing is in the bottom passenger's side corner of the windshield? I'm inclined to believe it's also something on the windshield and not something inside the car. The police didn't mention it in their press conference. Or, is it just glare from something outside the picture that the windshield is reflecting?

I found something interesting on this site. We've been caught up in the suction cup SunPass that can be affixed to a windshield. Whereas, it seems there is one that can permanently be attached to the windshield--never to come off again. And frankly, the one in the Prius picture looks more like the permanent type. So, it could be that the Pass on the windshield has been there for a long time and isn't operational. The reason it's there could be there is that it can't be removed without damaging the windshield.

To me the white thing on the passenger side looks like something white in the backseat area, that just stands out because it is white.

Some people order small parts for their car on line and install it themselves.
To order a mirror is easy, if you receive the wrong colour, some would send it back, others, not wanting the hassle, keep it.
Some criminal organizations might have cars set aside for these type of deeds, imo.

I was thinking a notebook, papers or map type of thing.

I was thinking a notebook, papers or map type of thing.

If it is not a reflection, which it probably is, then notebook, papers or map is definitely the logical possibility, imo!
If perp was a hired hand, wonder if he had a picture of D.M.in the car ?

I would bet on it. Maybe a picture of the home too.

Hi everyone. Brand new poster here. I am a true-crime lover wanna be, and I'm always fascinated by these type cases. This particular crime had me riveted immediately. So many rare things - low-risk victim, time of day, etc. - that I'm just drawn to. I am very surprised and disappointed that it's been over a year and not much progress has been made.
I didn't have time to read this entire thread, so please forgive me if this has been talked about at length.
I didn't realize he was actually ON the phone when he was shot. That's incredible. How is the person he was talking to at the time not like THE biggest thing in this case?! Someone mentioned maybe wanting to protect that person. Do authorities actually know who that was? Is there more detail about that phone call that I haven't read yet? Seems to me like I'd want to analyze that call (time, incoming/outgoing, duration, content, etc.) in very granular detail!

Welcome to Ws. ehg2001!
Have posted about the phone call too, wondering if shooter and phone person was one and the same..
However, according to a different poster, Dan was talking to someone of no particular concern.
If it was connected, imagine the killer would be located by now... i hope! imo.

Just things I'd wonder:
If he made the call outgoing - might speak to not knowing he was being followed, if it was 'road rage'. (Which I don't think)
Like, if he knew he had made someone mad on the road - surely he'd have noticed that person following him and would never have gone into his garage - and wouldn't have made a casual phone call with someone on his tail....

If the call was incoming, could it have been from someone trying to determine where he was - so the 'hit' could be conducted.

Long story is, I just can't believe this call was of no consequence. There has to be some info to be included or ruled out by the call. IMO, obviously. Just my curiosity getting the best of me.

He was on the phone with a person he didn't know very well. Not a family member, significant other, etc. Not the perp. (I know this secondhand from someone very close to him.)

If you know "secondhand" that "He was on the phone with a person he didn't know very well".... how do you know that this person wasn't the perp?
Also, do you know the reasoning that LE has not divulged the name of the person DM was on the phone with?

This reminds me of DM's setup, from your link..

"We have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to kill him," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

The garage door was open when neighbors found him, and detectives are still checking whether anything was taken from the home.

The garage was pristine, and nothing as out of place except for a folding ladder that was in the middle of the driveway, Judd said.

Yelvington was dressed for work, on his way to his job at a cardboard company in Auburndale, Judd said."

OMG. I just read the incident report and I know the officer VERY well! I'm gonna see if I can get any info out of him...

I reviewed the posts here for the past year and was especially interested in the above comment from one year ago.
I didn't see a follow-up comment regarding knowing "the officer VERY well" (who wrote the incident report) and "I'm gonna see if I can get any info out of him".

This case is perplexing. I'm wondering if TPD is not forthcoming about suspects because it is one of their own?

She has not been named a suspect or even a person of interest, so that's why we don't discuss her here.

What is interesting to me is they found the car yet can not trace the owner down. A question - when an insurance company totals a car, what do they do with it? Do they ever repair it and then sell it ? Do they sell it "as is" and the buyer can repair it to drivable condition?

How did the owner get an EZ pass without ID and a credit card?
