The sad thing is that they're correctly suspecting that LE may be trying to set them up. But when you have a guilty conscience you panic and do stupid things. And that's what this is. It's like watching in slow motion someone walking in front of a bus.

And KM is trying to suss out if this person is legit. They're smart enough to know that this could be LE but too guilty to sit on their hands and do nothing.
