Investigators in Santa Rosa County say 14-year-old Danika Troy was found dead Saturday in a wooded area off Kimberly Road, two days after she was reported missing.

Deputies said her body was badly burned and surrounded by shell casings.

Sheriff Bob Johnson said the scene was devastating for everyone involved.

“Needless to say, not only the person who found the body was traumatized,” he said. “You know, our major crimes detectives have to see stuff like this. You know, you don’t want to go out and see a burnt child with bullet holes.”

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said Danika Troy was reported as a runaway by her mother around 7 a.m. on December 1 in Pace.

"Unfortunately, for her mother, Danika was murdered the previous night," Johnson said during a press conference on Thursday.

*****
Johnson said investigators quickly developed two suspects, 16-year-old Gabriel Williams and 14-year-old Kimahri Blevins.

"This is what major crimes calls a ground ball," Johnson explained. "The evidence pointed to them immediately. They took them into custody immediately."

The sheriff stated that Williams stole his mother’s handgun and shot Troy.

Both teens are being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice on premeditated first-degree murder charges.

They believe the remote location was intentionally chosen.

“Here’s where it even gets worse. It’s bad enough you kill a 14-year-old, you’re 14, you’re 16, shoot her multiple times. Then they set her on fire,” Johnson said.

A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old have been arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder.

An arrest report said that one of the suspects and Troy had a falling out, and he had blocked her on social media.

The other suspect told detectives that Troy had “made hurtful comments to [suspect] about being worthless and a gang-banger, which upset him.”

One of the suspects was reportedly seen on surveillance camera sneaking back into his home on the night of the homicide.

Johnson said the case has left the department shaken and searching for answers.

“There’s not, right now, there’s not a clear motive, but I can tell you this, we’re going to be hopefully working with the State Attorney’s Office to get these individuals charged as adults,” Johnson said. “.”

A sad loss, grief, and sorrow for the family of a 14 year-old.
A young girl, just starting to grow into her teens.
It seems to never stop.
It does look like the perpetrators have been found.

If they were charged as adults, it's OK to do that.

One wonders what the motive may have been in the first place. We know they aren't athletes, or they would never have been arrested.

Have they been charged as adults? It seems from the comment above that this procedure was still in process.

What do you mean about them not being athletes? Surely the law applies to athletes in the same way as everyone else.

Seeing people of that age "premedating" something this awful is seriously sad.

This is just horrible. I have mutual friends with this girl's family. I had seen the appeals to help locate her on Facebook and was shocked and devastated to see that she had been murdered. My heart goes out to the family and the entire community. 😪

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's a classic case of "boy asks girl out, girl says no, boy kills girl". Although the fact that there are seemingly two killers in this case makes me wonder what would lead to the second one being involved if that was the motive

Blevins told investigators he last talked to Troy during Thanksgiving break. They "had a falling out and he blocked her on social media," and Blevins said he hadn’t seen or talked to her since, according to police documents.

Williams also reportedly told police that "Danika has made hurtful comments to Gabriel about being worthless and a gang-banger, which upset him."

All of this said, I know I read that LE is saying that the motive given by the suspects doesn't exactly match up with what happened, so a lot is still developing.

A Florida teenager reported as a runaway was found shot and burned in a wooded area this week — and now two teenage boys are facing murder charges in connection with her brutal death.

The two boys, ages 16 and 14, were arrested on Thursday, Dec. 4, and charged with first-degree premeditated murder in connection with the death of Danika Jade Troy, 14, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said in a press conference on Thursday.

PEOPLE is not naming the suspects because they are minors — though authorities hope to charge them as adults.

I had to break out the tiny violin for them whining about a "falling out" and her "hurtful comments" as if that's some reasons.

An athlete may have been arrested, but his name wouldn't have been released, not at this stage anyway.

Bet a lot of people have a good idea now what happened to their pets.

Quill, what are people in town saying about these kids, all of them? <modsnip>

Awh, I see what you mean now about athletes. You believe that athletes have added protection under the law.

It is a sad thing when people lose faith in their justice system. Naturally this would lead to a great deal of anger among the people if it were true. Injustice leads to hopelessness, and hopelessness leads to violence.

But these two boys seem too young to have an understanding of this.

I am interested to learn why DT was in the presence of these two teens in the first place. According to the first article linked by OP (which has been updated) one teen states he had a fall out with the victim and blocked her on social media. The other teen was branded a worthless gang banger, he states, by the victim. Why was she with them that night, did they lure her?

Also a witness has come forward and told detectives that one teen admitted to the planning and execution of the victims murder with the other teen.

Does anyone know how far the victims residence is from the secluded wooded location near Kimberly Road?

I caught that. Yes, appropriate reaction in my opinion. These kids wouldn't have survived the Gen X childhood. I never once thought of harming the ones who made my life miserable at times. I can't imagine doing it over one comment.

BBM. I don't live in the area anymore and just keep up with friends on fb. The friends I mentioned are extremely close to this family and they are devastated. I haven't had the heart to ask them any questions.

If I can say this, it's pretty obvious from other photos of DT taken much younger, that she was born with a cleft lip. IMO, JMO, she had a hard time but had a mother who loved her and was trying her hardest.

I highly doubt that either of these kids are athletes. It will be interesting to see what the guys were into that made them react to callously and brazenly to such a silly, soft perceived insult. Pure speculation here, but were they bullying her??? Did she react defensively? Is there more to this story?

LE have called this case a "ground ball" from the time they found her. They knew who did it. I want to know more about this.
