Investigators in Santa Rosa County say 14-year-old Danika Troy was found dead Saturday in a wooded area off Kimberly Road, two days after she was reported missing.
Deputies said her body was badly burned and surrounded by shell casings.
Sheriff Bob Johnson said the scene was devastating for everyone involved.
“Needless to say, not only the person who found the body was traumatized,” he said. “You know, our major crimes detectives have to see stuff like this. You know, you don’t want to go out and see a burnt child with bullet holes.”

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said Danika Troy was reported as a runaway by her mother around 7 a.m. on December 1 in Pace.
"Unfortunately, for her mother, Danika was murdered the previous night," Johnson said during a press conference on Thursday.

Johnson said investigators quickly developed two suspects, 16-year-old Gabriel Williams and 14-year-old Kimahri Blevins.
"This is what major crimes calls a ground ball," Johnson explained. "The evidence pointed to them immediately. They took them into custody immediately."

The sheriff stated that Williams stole his mother’s handgun and shot Troy.
Both teens are being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice on premeditated first-degree murder charges.

They believe the remote location was intentionally chosen.
“Here’s where it even gets worse. It’s bad enough you kill a 14-year-old, you’re 14, you’re 16, shoot her multiple times. Then they set her on fire,” Johnson said.
A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old have been arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder.
An arrest report said that one of the suspects and Troy had a falling out, and he had blocked her on social media.
The other suspect told detectives that Troy had “made hurtful comments to [suspect] about being worthless and a gang-banger, which upset him.”
One of the suspects was reportedly seen on surveillance camera sneaking back into his home on the night of the homicide.
Johnson said the case has left the department shaken and searching for answers.
