Missing Fort Myers attorney David Brener has license suspended by Florida Supreme Court

The emergency suspension order issued Wednesday said Brener "appears to be causing great public harm by failing to attend hearings and abandoning his clients’ legal matters, and failing to protect his clients’ interests."
A staff investigator for the Florida Supreme Court said he visited Brener's First Street condo and his Second Street law offices Oct. 29 and found both locked and empty.
At Brener's law office, the investigator said he could see law diplomas leaning against a wall, with plastic bins and cardboard file boxes filed on the floor as well as garbage bags that appeared to be full. Additionally, he said two receptionists said there was nobody working in the office.

There appears to be a lot going on with this one. One thing I keep going back to is the original post and who he was up against in this case. Even though much of this is sketchy, I wonder if he may not be on the run from the assault and payments to his accuser, he apparently went through that whole long trial and stuck around. My thought goes to having the wrong sketchy client and he fled for his safety. Right, wrong or indifferent, I do think he is on the run and therefore missing all of these cases but, the way some of the clients are portrayed, it may be a threat to him and that could also play a part. He can make quite a bit of money from his level of clients, those attorneys often get paid pretty well and receive some perks, the flip side is the victims of the clients he represents.

David Brener said he could no longer represent Jovan Duncan because he felt hostility toward the 40-year-old Fort Myers man.

I read this thread and all I can say is, you can only hid for so long. If he is in hiding, he is using cash. Most likely he had a stash for a days like this. He will turn up, when the money and friends run out. If I were him, I would go to Belize

What’s odd about the missed court dates is that it doesn’t seem to be something that would cause someone to flee. It’s a simple contempt charge, not a sever charge. Brener was facing a felony the year before, and appeared for trial on that case in spite of facing years in prison, and he was acquitted. Brener does have another pending issue, a lawsuit alleging that he took $120,000 in legal fees to represent Mark Gaver, but did not earn the fees. Gaver is a Bonita Springs man who was prosecuted in a $50 million bank fraud scheme. Gaver was convicted at trial in Maryland and sentenced to 17 years in prison. That’s not a nice person to make angry. Also, at least one of the other Defendants that had hired Brener has expressed frustration standing in court without their lawyer, saying they had paid Brener a lot of money for their representation. Looks like all those Defendants are out of luck. No word on Brener’s whereabouts, of whether or not foul play was involved.
