Linda Owens, 53, and her husband, Richard Mitchell, have been in and out of prison on theft, money laundering and racketeering convictions, court records show. They are the son and daughter-in-law of Mike Marks, the self-proclaimed gypsy king of the area, according to a federal indictment.

While Owens was incarcerated during the Hallandale murders (I believe), this article caused me to look up the Marks family to determine the nature of the crimes they were involved with. The first thing I found out is that "Marks" is the equivalent of "Smith" when it comes to Roma families. I did immediately hit on another arm of the Marks family that was convicted, back in the early fall, of fraud, etc. through their 'psychic' businesses. One of those convicted was Rose Marks. If you look up a photo of her, well, do you think she looks like the woman in the video near the Hallandale Beach condo murders?

Couple of observations:

If LE has 2 separate DNA profiles from inside the condo, it is possible neither of those profiles belongs to the female seen on video, walking in the grassy area and that female was a lookout. Eliminating DNA of friends and family of the victims doesn't necessarily mean that the female in the park is eliminated from that circle. In the video where she has something in her hand, she then goes out of site to the left behind the condo. She then re-appears without that item in her hand, and as she walks toward us on the right hand side, at one point she has her right hand up to her ear as if talking on a cell phone.

I'm not so convinced simple robbery was the motive. This day and age, Joe/Jane Average is pretty hard pressed at a glance to know the difference between actual diamonds and a good cubic zirconia, Austrian crystal, white sapphire, or genuine diamond. Someone would have to have known the value of that ring for it to be the only item of value to go missing in this case. If someone DID know the value in that ring to place that much importance on it, then I believe it is someone known to the victims.

As in any case, thinking of ye ol' money trail, have we heard anything at all about whether the victims had investments and if they both had Wills?

Seriously Snoopster, I hadn't seen the FBI/DNA reference in any of the previous articles, so not sure we knew about it before now.

Quoting my own post further up....
The link didn't work anymore so I looked up the crime and LE arrested two male suspects a few days after the murder. One of the suspects was related by marriage is some way. So, this crime is unlikely related.

LE has been getting lot's of tips since the press conference. The good news was they have DNA, hope they can find who to match it to.

Nothing new, so just trying this one on for size.
Distraction thefts of the elderly have become a huge problem, wondering if the perps tried
after spotting RW's huge ring and decided to go get it.
Thinking due to the ring's custom designed clasp, it might have been hard for thieves to remove. moo.

Wondering what this female with square-like shoulders, imo. might look like wearing a blonde wig?

“This is not a very transient community. Everyone knows everyone… With her not being identified and being around the home with two female DNA profiles being inside the crime scene, she is particularly someone we want to speak with,” Flournoy said.

“Donny and Rochelle have no enemies. They did not carry large sums of money around. They were not flashy. We just have not been able to point the reason why someone would target them or was it a crime of opportunity?… We have not been able to establish why.”

Flournoy said his team has interviewed more than 50 people in the case and cross-referenced the DNA profiles found at the crime scene with DNA databases in the United States and Canada, to no avail.

What police do know, is that the profiles “do not match anyone in the Pichosky family or the Wise family, or anyone that would have had access to their residence, any workers, any maids, any maintenance individuals who would have been permitted into their home,” Flournoy said".

:bump: for Donny and Rochelle

I don't think this case was about the ring. This couple was bound and killed ... who does ALL that for a ring? Surely Rochelle would have given up the ring in a heartbeat before letting someone who wanted it tie either of them up. No matter the value of the ring (dollar value or sentimental value), there is a point where a victim is going to say "here, just take it". Sorry for the expression, but this sure seems like overkill for a ring.

I had initially thought the female outside in the grassy area was a lookout. Two females inside and one outside ... am now wondering if this was some type of gang initiation and the female outside in the grassy area was a gang leader.

It would be odd for a first offence to be such a violent one (let alone to avoid capture for so long), but so far there is no DNA match. Does anyone know if young offenders in Florida would be required to submit DNA if they have previously been charged and convicted of a violent crime?

Going back to just the ring -- When/where was the ring bought and what records are available to staff who work there? Also, did the couple have any recent insurance dealings when they were in Florida? The ring would have probably had separate coverage under their policy so what staff may have been involved if there were insurance dealings?

If Donny and Rochelle were spotted at any store and followed home, the perps could have known the vehicle and simply walked through the community to find it. This may have been asked before and I've forgotten .. is this an adult/retirement community or are there young people who live there as well?
