FL FL - David 'Donny' Pichosky, 71, & Rochelle Wise, 66, Hallandale Beach, 10 Jan 2013

Its hard to believe that this trip was all about getting to know who this couple was.
It feels very much like the police suspect the motive stems from something going on in their lives at home, not something in Florida

A couple of months????

I thought they were in Toronto to tie up loose ends and hopefully make an arrest, but from what they are saying, they are interviewing almost everyone the couple knew and have worked with - this sounds like a very wide net.

If, as they claim, they have plenty of evidence in the lab, I don't know why they are not more focussed on who that evidence points to. What makes them think that the killer/s are in Toronto? What makes them so sure the case will be solved?

It certainly sounds like they don't expect to solve it for months so I can only assume that their evidence is weak

I have a strong suspicion that it may never be solved.......

As I posted earlier, this involves far more than a random home invasion JMO

O/T(ish) but, this fellow seems to be scamming the Jewish community in several countries....

http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2...s_mount_as_numerous_victims_come_forward.html

"
“It’s the subway shekel shakedown,” Det. James Turnbull told the Star.

While initial victims said they were approached in subway stations near Jewish neighbourhoods such as Yorkdale and Glencairn, Det. Turbull said the incidents happened across the city.

Two women first reported falling victim to the fraud back in November 2011.

Det. Turbull has now received multiple calls from victims in New York, one dating back to the late 1980s.

“It just goes to show how long this guy has been doing this,” he said.

Aharonovitz, who made a Toronto court appearance but has yet to face his charges, was dubbed the “Tube Shekel Scammer” by a U.K. newspaper after pleading guilty to three counts of fraud by false representation in 2008.

Police are asking anyone who encountered Aharonovitz to call them at 416-808-1370, including people who previously made a report to police but never heard back."

It has been one month since the double murder of David (Donny) Pichosky and Rochelle Wise. Hallandale LE are still not giving out any information on the cause of death.

Here is a new article from the Toronto Star

But in both Hallandale Beach and at home, there’s a sense that those with information about how or why they died either aren’t talking, or don’t have much to say.
Investigators, who maintain they have yet to determine a motive or cause of death, are playing whatever cards they do have tight against the chest. Still awaiting results of toxicology tests, police refuse to reveal anything about how the couple, well-known members of the Toronto Jewish community, were killed. And they have asked those closest to them to do the same.

“As much as I’d love to share, I can’t, because I want them to catch whoever did this,” said Pichosky’s daughter, Sari Rosenblum, whose family has previously declined requests for comment. “They were loved everywhere, which is why it’s so bizarre. I can’t figure out why something like this would happen.”

Not interested in input from the general public …

“When you start to put out details, they (tipsters) begin to weave certain facts . . . that we know to be true into their own developed story,” Flournoy said. “Then we have to go out and spend a tremendous amount of resources in tracking down those leads.”

Not looking at family members …

Although police are still in the early stages of their investigation, there is one thing they are adamant about: Family members are not among the list of potential suspects.
“There is no indication that this homicide is related to the family, not at all,” Flournoy said.

Hallendale LE now know cause of death, but are not telling us. They are keeping it between themselves and the killer/s so that they can "assess any suspects".

They may or may not issue a statement tomorrow (Feb 13) but if they do, it sounds like it will be a non event, because they are not going to update the public with any new information.

TORONTO - The medical examiner (ME) has determined the cause of death for murder victims Rochelle Wise and Donny Pichosky but Hallandale Beach, FL, police are keeping that information to themselves for now.

“We may put some information out on Wednesday to try to spur some more leads and get some more information from the public but we really have nothing to update,” said Flournoy. “We’re still just actively investigating this case.”

“We’re still hoping to hold some of that information back because we believe that it helps us to have the details as to the cause of death and the manner of death isolated so that only the people that are responsible for this, the medical examiner and the crime scene technicians, are the ones that have that information.”

Keeping that information from the public will help police assess any suspects they might develop, he explained

New lead, cctv shows unidentified female..
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...in-killings-of-florida-couple/article8686853/

"The previous day, the Hallandale Beach Police Department said, a neighbour’s security camera recorded a woman arriving at the home, carrying an unidentified item.

The three-minute video shows a corpulent woman in a dark jacket, light-coloured pants and white sneakers.

She arrived in the morning and walked slowly through the grassy lane between the two townhouses, holding a small object, then returned empty handed"

Looks like she fed the bird out of (or a piece of) whatever she was carrying.

If she is somehow involved, 5 minutes and change (at best) is quick work to murder two people.

And if she did, she had to be crazy stealthy to sneak up on the wife (slumped over the kitched table) and maybe the husband (bedroom) as well.

Doesn't quite compute.

Or she was known to them and let in by them...still, how she could take out
both of em in a few minutes and appear that calm/unaffected....probably just a random
bird-feeder.

Cleaning lady might have a key? doubt she is or was tho.

Need to Identify
“The woman is not a suspect or person of interest. We would like to speak to her to see if she heard or saw anything,”

It appears as if she is wearing a t-shirt with writing on it. If LE can zoom in and get a clear picture of what is written on the shirt, then finding the person would be easier.

The link will not work for me, but I am wondering if the woman seen is making a cake delivery?

Dotr, the link works for me, but here is a link to CBS Miami, which has a video of a newscast, which shows and talks about the woman featured. It's half way down the page

Original video

It skips from 10:53 to 10:59, which is when she is hidden from view behind the condo.

I’ve drawn up a timeline, based on what has been reported so far. If anyone has any additions/corrections, please feel free to change it.

It seems to me that the crucial timing would be when the neighbour saw Donny returning from grocery shopping. Was it before/during/after the unidentified female was caught on tape?

TIMELINE

9th Feb
Sometime in the morning, a neighbour saw Donny Pichosky returning from shopping (doesn’t specify time, and doesn’t mention if his wife was with him or not)

Shortly before 11:00am, a surveillance video shows a female walking along the side and back of the condo carrying something. She disappears from camera view for about 6 mins (tape skips during this time) and returns empty handed.

Rochelle and Donny were supposed to meet friends for lunch, but they didn’t turn up and calls to them were not returned.

10th Feb
Their morning newspapers were not picked up

Couple discovered dead later that day, when a neighbour with a key went to check on them.

The info below is included to support the timeline.

Another neighbor, Frances Chouinard, said she last greeted Pichosky on Wednesday morning when he returned home from grocery shopping. On Thursday morning, she noticed he hadn't picked up his newspaper and that a Macy's shopping bag was left at his front door.

Hallendale PD video of surveillance tape showing unidentified female near the condo

On Wednesday, January 9, 2013, Danny and Rochelle failed to show-up for a lunch date with a neighbor. The friend made several calls to the couple that were not returned. The next day, at six-thirty in the evening, a friend with a spare key entered the townhouse to check on the couple. The neighbor found Donny and Rochelle dead. Shortly after the discovery, a spokesperson with the Hallandale Beach Police Department announced that the Canadian retirees had been murdered.

The Toronto Star claims the video was shot at 9:45 (but the time on th video shows 10:52/53 start, then skips to 10:59 for the return trip. As the time diff is approx an hour, that may be due to daylight savings time not being adjusted, so I'm flagging that in the timeline.

Also, the Toronto Star indicates that friends were supposed to meet the couple for lunch on the 10th. That may not be correct as based on other reports, it was said to be the 9th.

With next to no facts coming out on this case, you would think they could agree on what little information there is.

Need to clarify the following:

which day were they supposed to meet their friends for lunch? 9th or 10th?

what time was the surveillance video shot video says 10:52, Toronto Star says 9:45 (approx one hour difference).

What time in the morning did the neighbour see Donny return from grocery shopping on the 9th? Did she see both Rochelle and Donny, or was Donny by himself?

Amended Timeline

(clarification needed as reports differ: Toronto Star claims it was an hour earlier, but that is at odds with the time on the video - possibly video time was not adjusted for daylight savings, or possibly TS has wrong time)

Rochelle and Donny were supposed to meet friends for lunch, but they didn’t turn up and calls to them were not returned. (clarification needed as reports differ: Toronto Star claims the lunch was on the same day as bodies found. There are differing reports, some say 9th, others 10th).

10th Feb
Their morning newspapers were not picked up

Couple discovered dead later that day, when a neighbour with a key went to check on them.

The footage was captured at around 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 9, the day before the well-loved couple was found dead in their townhouse in the quiet, palm tree-lined Venetian Park development.

The bodies of Pichosky and Wise were discovered by a neighbour shortly after 6 p.m. on Jan. 10.
They had plans that day to meet neighbours for lunch and when they didn’t attend, their friends became nervous, police said.

Nature's clock--the shadows cast by the tree and the building and the woman--suggest an earlier time as well.

I imagine someone experienced in determing time by looking at shadows would be able
to tell the time to within +/- 5 minutes.

A month later, murder of Donny Pichosky and Rochelle Wise remains a mystery
Investigators, who maintain they have yet to determine a motive or cause of death, are playing whatever cards they do have tight against the chest. Still awaiting results of toxicology tests, police refuse to reveal anything about how the couple, well-known members of the Toronto Jewish community, were killed. And they have asked those closest to them to do the same.
To access Venetian Park, vehicles must pass a security guardhouse equipped with a camera and gate. The booth is seldom manned but according to a sign posted at the entrance, the condo development is “electronically monitored 24 hours a day.”
When police assured residents they weren’t at risk, and travelled to Toronto to conduct interviews, neighbour Boris Basmanov said he began to ask if there was “maybe something in Canada” to explain their deaths.

But Hallandale Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy, part of the team that came here late last month, said the trip was an attempt to better get to know the victims in a “complex” homicide investigation that is “not a smoking gun case.”

He readily admits he has shared no details with area residents, other than the fact he has no indication the couple were targeted because of their religion, race or wealth — evidence that would lead him to believe the general public could be at risk.
Although police are still in the early stages of their investigation, there is one thing they are adamant about: Family members are not among the list of potential suspects.

“There is no indication that this homicide is related to the family, not at all,” Flournoy said.

:floorlaugh: dotr, no not the cake again, lol.

Maybe Hal could help us with the video. He has done an amazing job on the Toronto woman's thread.

On this particular video, I think the woman is holding a cup of coffee (like Timmy's), and maybe what she gives to the bird is a piece of something she is eating, maybe donut, sandwich?
At one point, I also thought it could be a small bouquet of flowers, but what could she give to the bird if she was carrying flowers? :waitasec:

 • #57
It looks to me that that woman is feeding the birds. She does act as if she is trying not to attract too much attention to herself, walking close to the buildings. Perhaps she feels a bit uncomfortable walking behind people's houses in case she isn't welcome, but wants to walk along the waterway, where the birds are. The gap that she walks through isn't even the closest one to the victims' townhouse.

Here's a map showing the location where I think the video was shot and where the victims' townhouse is specifically located (926 NE 25th Ave).

http://goo.gl/maps/vKNXG

Perhaps the woman was staying at a townhouse just on the other side of the tennis court and that was the most direct path to the water.

I suspect that LE just wants to know if she saw anything at all at the back side of the townhouses.

 • #58
I think you may be right. You can see her set something down right behind the fence as she goes around the corner. I think she fed the birds/ducks right there.

I wonder how LE can insist that no one else is at risk, if they do not have a motive or suspect. Hope we learn more tomorrow.
