Oviedo daycare bus driver arrested after leaving 6-year-old alone on hot bus, police say

A daycare bus driver in Oviedo was arrested Wednesday after she unknowingly left a 6-year-old girl alone in the hot vehicle because she failed to check if any children were still on board, according to the Oviedo Police Department.

Barbra Ledbetter, who drove the bus to All About Kidz in Oviedo, was arrested and charged with child neglect amid the investigation, which was first opened by the Department of Children and Families on Tuesday, according to an arrest affidavit. She has since been fired from the daycare center, a spokesperson told FOX 35 on Wednesday.

So bus driver didn't check the bus although she logged that she had.

My question is, why didn't anyone else at the daycare realize or worry that the child hadn't gotten off the bus? Is there no sort of attendance process at this daycare or requirement to call your child off sick if they will NOT be there??

There probably is a written procedure, but in practice…when parents are having hectic mornings with a sick child they might not always remember to call the day care. Being strict with your customers is not always a battle worth fighting.
