A woman was walking the beach on October 4 when she found a deceased male in the tide line at Daytona Beach Shores. The identity of the person or a known cause of death was not immediately released. Investigators say it appears by the condition of his body that he was in the ocean for a day or two.

Identified as Kurt McCrea

A body washed ashore before sunrise Wednesday morning behind the Castaways Beach Resort in Daytona Beach Shores and authorities have identified him as a 40-year-old who was last seen Monday heading into the ocean with a surfboard.

Capt. Tammy Malphers, a Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue spokeswoman, confirmed that a walker discovered the body of a male lying in the sand shortly before 7 a.m. in the area of 2043 S. Atlantic Ave.

Andrew Gant, a Volusia County Sheriff’s spokesman, identified the deceased man as Kurt McCrea.

Two people had flagged down Beach Safety on Wednesday to report him missing. They said McCrea had gone into the water Monday and was not in distress when they left, but when they returned to the beach later that day, he was gone, Gant said.
