Details of Disappearance
Diane and her fourteen-year-old daughter, Tammy, disappeared together from Daytona Beach, Florida on June 11, 1979. They lived in an apartment in the 500 block of Park Drive. A neighbor saw them walking along International Speedway Boulevard away from their home at 6:00 a.m. Diane never showed up for work that day, and Tammy never arrived at school. They left all their belongings behind, as well as money in the bank.

A photo of Tammy is posted with this case summary. Her skeletal remains were found in rural Screven County, Georgia in 1986, but they were initially believed to be those of a woman between 20 and 40 years old. It wasn't until 1992 that an anthropologist determined the bones were those of a teenager, and they were not identified as Tammy's until July 2013. Diane's body has not been found.

Tammy's death and Diane's disappearance remain unsolved. The chief suspect in their cases is Benjamin Ponder, who who was Diane's boyfriend in 1979. He was born in Screven County, where Tammy's body was found, and had family ties there. A photo of Ponder is posted with this case summary. He maintained his innocence in Tammy and Diane's cases until his death in 2009. Diane's parents and one of her sisters have died, but she has other relatives who are still alive and hope for a resolution.

What about MP7528 Diane Hollins and UP2312?
Both profiles have never been compared and there is a chance that this is the match we have been looking for.

Not only does the timeline and facial structure match up, but UP2312’s scarring on her back and buttocks may suggest that she was in an abusive relationship (a fact that Diane Hollins was known to be in).

Both profiles also align when comparing demographics, including age, height and weight.

The FBI’s VICAP program profile for UP2312 suggests that the dental records, fingerprints and DNA are available for comparison, which should make this potential matchup with Diane Hollins - hopefully relatively straightforward.

I have emailed Carrie Sutherland (the Regional Program Specialist for both cases) but she is currently away from the office. Perhaps getting in touch with both case holders would be more appropriate?

Sure sounds like the suspect snatched them off the sidewalk, drove them to his hometown/county and disposed of them. But where would he leave the mother? I doubt it’s very far from where the daughter was found.

He knew that area, he’s comfortable there, so it would be reasonable that he knew an unpopulated area with little foot traffic.

Thinking that he did either offer them a ride or forcibly snatch them, then killed Diane right away and disposed of her in FL and then Tammy in GA. Diane’s remains could be in FL, GA or even SC. JMO

That wouldn’t be surprising if his end goal was the child. Get rid of the mother first, travel further with the child, then dispose of her. I wonder if he was known by others as a creep, who’s stares lingered too long, on little girls or who’s touches were inappropriate, when in the company of children. JMO
