GUILTY FL - Dontrell Melvin, 5 mos, Hallandale Beach, July 2011

I'm finished with all the documents. I'm enraged. I don't have any words. Oh my God I'm so angry I can't stand it.

Back at the start of this case I thought it was just one, crazy, murderous father that lied and fooled his family. But sadly, I was wrong. It now looks like it was the whole lot of them that were corrupt. :furious:

Hmm so what was the babymama thinking about when her Dontrell disappeared? Probably something like........ " Well now i can go get that awesome tattoo I have been wanting and go get my nails done and not have to worry about icky diapers messing up my manicure. All that money I had to waste on diapers and food, I can spend on worthy things like lotsa tattoos and killer manicures. YES!!!! No more having to deal with a whiny cranky kid messing up me and my swag. Now I can get back to posting hot pics of myself on facebook.

I might think this was possible if Dontrell was her oldest, but he was her middle child. When Dontrell disappeared his mother still had an older sibling of his to care for.

If you read those docs, then I'd guess someone said " i'll punch u , f u' etc and actually followed through and Dontrell maybe not accustomed to it was unable to withstand the punch :(
Poorest baby boy !

DCF released a batch of records related to this case. At this link -

Omg, omg, omg. :what: why?! This is the 21st century. We in the US can choose not to have children if we don't want them (said with no judgment, as I myself do not have children). And I feel like are so many options, even once you've given birth, if you don't want to or believe you're incapable of caring for your child (I mean correct me if I'm wrong on that of course)...no reason for this bs. :banghead:

I have not yet read them. I don't have sound so can't listen to the calls. I was hoping someone would summarize or state which one has what info...

I'm too tired to read through them tonight, hopefully tomorrow.

Dontrell's got me thinking of a local case of a little 3 yr old boy found as a john doe. A sister of his finally had the courage to tell a school social worker. The boy has since been identified, but his parents fled to Mexico. In this case, Atcel's case. his mother, father and one of the grandmothers (not sure if paternal or maternal) knew.

It just blows my mind multiple generations would be involved with something like this.

Ok, somebody help me. I'm looking at the PDF from September 2012 pg 2 scroll down to section IV implications of child safety part A.... Am I reading that correctly that someone is stating they were not responsible for the death of another child??

I will never understand this. We have not only discovered what causes pregnancy but also invented ways to prevent it. Freaking use one (or ten) of them.

I might think this was possible if Dontrell was her oldest, but he was her middle child. When Dontrell disappeared his mother still had an older sibling of his to care for.

The older child was 3 or 4. likely potty trained and able to feed himself and be entertained by cartoons and such. She could plop him in front a TV, toss him some junk food and juice boxes, threaten him if he bothered her and be done with him. Or send him to his grandma (babymama's mom) who lived close by.

But a baby needs to have bottles fixed, diapers changed, be held and comforted, wakes you at all hours of the night, etc.

Possibly she lived with her mom when the older child was born because she was about 17-18 when he was born. So her mother likely most of the childcare or someone else did. But with Dontrell, she was on her own with a babydaddy who apparently did little to help and who didnt care for the baby either.

The older child was her first child and maybe she was entertained by the novelty of having a baby as an attention getter. The novelty wore off with Dontrell and reality set in and he was quickly gotten rid of.

Each child is different and some kids are abused in a family while others are well cared for. Some children are more easy going and others cry more and are more needy For whatever reason, Dontrell was not cherished.

I didn't make it thru all the PDFs. I was too steamed after the first couple. :twocents:

Yeah what the heck? You say that to a CPS worker and they don't raise an eyebrow? Also in the next section it says all children were over 4 yrs old , the younger children WERE NOT SEEN! So if you know there are younger children and you have not SEEN THEM how can you attest to their well being? This is a cps Cluster****. Grrrrr

By CAROL MARBIN MILLER, MARIA CAMILA BERNAL AND ELINOR J. BRECHER — Miami Herald

The goings-on in front of six young kids at 647 NW Third Ct. in Hallandale Beach — the dope smoking and drinking, the yelling, cursing and threats — was so disturbing to an observer that she called the state’s child abuse hotline.

“It is just terrible,’’ the woman told the hotline operator just after the New Year. “Horrible.’’

ITA with you! But where I live, and I'm sure in so many other areas of the country, having a baby just means getting more money added to that welfare check. DFS is so overloaded with cases now, it's just impossible to keep up with every family and every child.
I don't know who dropped the ball on this case, it sounds like a domino effect to me. Sad, sad to think there are kids anywhere having to live like that, and this little baby wasn't even missed for so long!

Records released by DCF on Monday include a transcript of the call describing the wretched conditions at the house — Menendez’s boyfriend called the children “mother-----s’’ and “*****es,’’ the caller said, and screamed that he would “knock them around.’’ The agency also released transcripts of three prior calls from people concerned for the Menendez kids.

But DCF personnel reported over and over that there was no need to step in.

Seriously, no need to step in? What were they waiting on? A dead baby perhaps? Well they were 18 months too late! My God, what a horrible failure on the part of so many.

I liked the part where the social worker told the mom there was a slight odor in the house, and to mop her kitchen floor with a scented chemical.

All that going on in that house of horrors, and that's the social worker's action - to recommend mopping the kitchen floor with scented cleaner.

The second I saw that I wondered if that odor might be..... well little baby Dontrell's body :(

I was just checking out the FB page, to see if there were any other wise words of wisdom from this maven of motherhood. And now I am so disgusted, I could cry.

We can't take care of our children, or find the time to make sure they have clean clothes. We all pile into the flop house together, and neglect our children. Don't even have time to worry that one hasn't been seen in MONTHS!!

But we took the time to make stupid pictures for our FB, to tell everyone that we are Sexy and Thick. I don't even know what that means..... But we have a phone, w/internet access! And we spend PLENTY of money on tattoos and piercings! She got her <modsnip> paint job on her nails! Wonder how many loads of laundry you could do with that money. Or new clothes? Or healthy food for your children? Or how much time you could have spent paying attention to them, instead of yourself.

No sugar coating today. That is a disgusting, repulsive, <modsnip>, and if it were up to me, she wouldn't see tomorrow. And neither would that disgusting excuse for a baby daddy.
