GUILTY FL - Doug Benefield, 58, shot and killed by estranged wife, Manatee County, 27 Sept 2020 #2

I'm a bit rusty now but wasn't there evidence that he wasn't facing her when she shot him?
RSBM. Yes. IMO that's why she came up with the story about him adopting a sideways "ninja" stance when confronted with AB pointing the gun at him.

Oh yes, that moment in court. How could I forget that charade.

So I guess now Ashley's mother will raise her daughter? UGH. I mean, glad Ashley won't get to poison her mind against her father but pretty sure her mother will do the same. Her mother, who raised AB so well. Sigh.

Grandma that had her granddaughter outside protesting

IMO, Grandma was fully involved in the murder plan.
Sustained! @Sustained ….. seems so plausible. And what seals that IMO, IIRC didn’t the grandmother (i.e. AB mother) agree to take the young daughter out of the house to play in the park……. at the time during which DB was slain by AB?

Rather than assist her daughter with any potential discord with the estranged husband while preparing for the move, IIUC she removes the child from the residence. That act in itself is IMO rather telling. MOO

I have no doubt the "move" was just a ploy to get DB over to the house and alone with AB. Don't have a link but AB apparently had an escape plan (as relayed by her family court lawyer) hatched to get away from DB should the murder plot fail consisting of a new FL apartment, burner phone and rental car.

Heard it mentioned somewhere that no one from her family was there to support her today and give a statement. Seems like the only friend AB has left is the condescending arrogant psychologist who she lived with for half a year or so.

Some questions popping up are addressed in this article... which was updated in September of 2024..
It is a great reminder of some of the cray-cray. Strong recommendation to reread now!!!!

David King Benefield, Doug's brother, spoke about their close relationship.

"God blessed me with two great brothers and Doug, two years older than me, was such a gift to me," David said. "He was truly a hero in my life. Every day, I feel a kick in the gut from the loss of my brother."

He said Doug was not the "monster" Ashley Benefield claimed he was.

"Doug patiently endured Ashley's verbal, emotional and legal abuse for over three years, and was still willing to reconcile with her," David said.

Really disappointed by the judge's demeanor and sentencing statements. He was lenient towards the defendant. I realize he didn't grant the downward departure but I couldn't blame defense if they felt confused and led on by his initial statements and then hearing the actual sentence. The jury's verdict was a lesser included count so....

I don't find any of the judge's findings to be consisent with the evidence. It was based off of her testimony and she's not credible at all to me. DB was no angel but this was an intentional murder imo.

Huh?
Neil Taylor, AB's defense lawyer blamed her 20 yr sentence on the "old- school male jurists" who are uneducated or blind to DV.

BTW: Her jury was composed of 5 women and one man.

Neil must be trying to drum up some new business.

Snip
Ashley Benefield will appear in court today for a bond hearing regarding her release pending appeal.

According to the defense team for Ashley Benefield, the hearing is to see whether she should be granted bond while waiting for an appeal.
It remains to be seen but I think her chances of getting out on bond would be more realistic if this hearing was being held if she already had been granted a new trial on appeal.

Did I miss this woman who's a missionary testimony at the trial and portrays AB as beyond reproach in the eyes of the lord. lol
If she didn't why didn't she testify for the God/Jesus filled AB?
