GUILTY FL - Dr. Hector, 76, & Debra Rivera, 55, murdered in Avila mansion, 9 Jan 2012

  • #41
Did Dr & Mrs have only one son, now an atty, marrried ~2006?
Does that atty-son have 2 young sons?

Or are there more kids from their marriage or prior marriage, and those adult children have 2 young sons?

http://www.tampabay.com/news/public...e-records-for-clues-in-avila-couples/1209936s
Article above states:
"The couple had two young grandsons who'd spend time at their house, Muniz [head of Avila's gated community security committee] said, and the boys would play with other neighborhood children."

Color me confused.
Does "couple" refer---
--- to Dr & Mrs, or
---to neighbor who was quoted in paragraph or two above in story?

Thx in adv.

We think maybe Mr Rivera was married before and had kids in that marriage. But usually they talked about Hector Jr being an only child. So that quote was probably about Hector Jr's kids.

the 2 young grandsons I believe are Hector Jrs and his wife. (according to my google/fb sleuthing) I think they are about 6 and 3 in age.

These houses are not as secluded as originally thought and the driveway is wide open and very close to the 2 immediate neighbors. I still believe the killer was surprised by Hector and shot in a panic.

I agree with your thoughts, goonie!! And in logically thinking about what we now know it truly doesn't make sense that the husband was killed as he walked up.. That with them both being the target that the killer would have waited a mere 30+more seconds for Hector to enter into his home and go from there in the privacy of the home..

I am almost convinced at this point that possibly this was very much intended for Debbie as the victim that her gunshot(s) were muffled or silenced.. And that the reason the gunshots were heard for Hector is because he unfortunately returned at just the wrong time when the perp was making his get away.. Face to face coming from Hector's home, with Hector's wife dead inside, and most importantly the perp being known to Hector.. The perp had no choice but to tho completely unplanned.. He found he had to kill Hector and immediately flee.. Thus the shooting being unplanned and spur of the moment the gunshots weren't in any way muffled or silenced.. Therefor loudly and clearly heard by neighbors setting in motion immediate flurry of 911 calls with LE certainly quickly on their way..

At this point with what's known its most logical IMO that Debbie was the intended target with Hector being an unplanned casualty.. Sad..

Or whomever it was could have come to kill them both and only Debbie was there so he restrained her and then when he saw the Dr. coming up to the house he shot Debbie and then the Dr. The Dr. may have heard the shots and came running toward the house and never made it. Didnt the neighbors say they heard the gunshots. That makes me think the shots were fired very close together in time.

The most logical imo is who would inherit all of their money if they were out of the way since robbery appears not to be the motive.

I want to know if he and Debbie got along with all of Hector's other children or was there one they had problems with?

I have been reading so quickly since this happened but I thought I read that LE thinks there was more than one involved. Did I read that right?

IMO

So from what I am understanding she came home from a trade show. He went to the neighbors alone for dinner. He gets shot as he walked onto his driveway. Neighbors call LE and when they get there they find her in the bathroom.

The impression I am getting is that the killer arrived after he left for dinner. Tied her up and at some point killed her. If the killer tied her up, it sounds like she was alive for a time? Maybe to give info about his wherebouts? Maybe the killer waited for him??? Then killed him in the driveway? Which makes it sound like maybe he was the main target?

Neighbors say they aren't afraid. That is strange, unless they know or guess something about the killer. Like maybe they know or guess who it is.And know why they were killed. Also would explain why the son was so afraid.

Pure speculation..... I am guessing that it probably has to do with the first family. The one who wasn't talked about.

I think I read an article where the neighbors were told by LE that they think the couple was targeted but they dont know why.

Yeah well human nature says if you don't know why, you are scared.

arrest Julian Flores. They are searching his residence now. He was the driver for Debbie. He was found in the residence. Claimed that he was attacked and tied up too. Weapon was found in the residence. Possible previous thefts. Jewelry from the residence had been reported stolen recently was in the process of investigation. She had become distrustful of him. Planned. She wasn't bound.

I'm slow, hope I got everything right. Someone correct me if I didn't.

Driver did it..dang

She was no bound.

That is so sad. He was her helper and driver and this is the way he repaid her.:furious:

From what I gather HE was the one who stole her jewelry.

he hid the gun in the house and the cops found it. so they have the weapon.

Dr. Rivera went to watch the football game at neighbors and came home for a brief moment to bring his wife some dinner and happened upon the crime.

Debbie was the only intended victim it looks like.
