And what I beleive Cali was trying to say was that maybe the crime was committed because of the oppression that might be caused by being a Reverend/Minister's Son.

Such high standards that might have been imposed as his growing up years due to his Father's status.

Both white and black commit heinious crimes!!!!!

Yes, that is very true. And there aren't excuses for the crimes committed either! I am sure the perps think they have very good reasons, but that just doesn't cut it. What did this 99 year old woman do wrong? She was in her own home, and she gets raped and killed because of some idiot who thinks it's his right to do so.

Thank you for pointing out what was on my mind Littledeer! I couldn't have said it better myself!

I agree that parental oppression is the one that makes sense. But I also agree that I get sick of hearing the Jesse Jackson types screaming that it's all about people getting down on the black man like that has some kind of bearing on who does what. People do what they do and it's because I don't think race has anything at all to do with it that it bothers me. It's like "I get it, you're black, 150 years ago that mattered..."

Is it just me or crimes like this becoming more and more common. What ever happened to respect for your elders? There was a case in Memphis recently where teen boys picked a old man at random to beat to death and then drove his truck around town as a trophy. If there is any segment of the population that should be cherished and loved instead of abused and killed, it's the elderly. They are a limited resource and we need to honor them.

That is exactly what I was saying. If these perps aren't crying about drugs, which they willingly take, destroying their ability to tell right from wrong, they're whining about how they were mistreated by their parents.

"I wasn't potty trained right!"

I'm sorry southitymom, but that doesn't justify the action on a 99 year old!!!!!!!

He should be hung and flogged to death. I still can't get over the fact that his Father is a Minister!!! What does that say about his upbringing???

I don't think assault is ever justified, but I do think it is important and helpful to look at the reasons why someone would assault someone else. A 17-year-old doesn't just decide to rape and murder overnight...there are factors that lead to that sort of dark decision. I will always be interested in those factors - not from an excuse standpoint but from a standpoint of being curious about what leads us humans to do the evil deeds we do.

So sorry for the family. this hits close to home. A 15 year old kid I used to babysit for raped and killed a 81 year old woman. He was convicted as an adult and got out about 10 years ago. Now he is back in for Armed robbery.
