I'd like to know what evidence leads to the label of "endangered". She had a place to live, a job, regular contact with her children. Maybe ongoing contact with her mom? I would be frustrated by her disappearance if she were my friend or relative but she took her bunny & its enclosure. That says to me she decided to move on for whatever reason. I hope she will get in touch with someone so she can have some space without being harassed. Even dying her hair black doesn't stand out as a danger sign to me. Probably just coincidence!

I realize I'm probably in the minority here. Tell me why she is endangered and maybe that will change my mind.

MOO

I too was wondering about the "endangered" label that was put in the missing person report.

I am wondering if something or someone at work scared her. Didn't she leave work early saying she was ill? And to leave 3 weeks of pay behind is very strange. Makes me think something was going on there. JMO

It's not just strange, I don't believe it! Is that info from an LE source? How often was she paid? Was she still working while her back pay was in a desk somewhere unclaimed? Huh?

I haven't read the whole thread. My apologies if I missed something.

It's in this video about a minute in. Several pay checks haven't been picked up

The video says "several" paychecks were left at her employer. Post 71 if it doesn't link below.

Something spooked her. Perhaps imagined or a trigger from a past relationship.

Thanks! I still don't get it. Did she have something other than her regular paycheck due from her employer? Severance? A bonus? Overtime? Sports pool among employees? Very few people go to work every day & don't pick up their pay. So I want to know more, like a statement from her employer. Because HR tends to pursue you. They don't want to hold your pay if you're showing up. And you aren't earning money if you're absent!

I'm guessing she’s paid weekly.

My opinion only - endangered may not be referring to Erica personally. It may be referring to an environment, situation or possible event. For example, Erica may need to go into hiding, fly under the radar or some such behavior. Her family, coworkers, etc. may have provided information. LE may need time to ascertain the risk, ensure her safety and provide protection. If this is the case, Erica left with the things most precious to her.

It would be great if there was a photo of the bunny. Particularly if it really is a live bunny. If she's in hiding, the bunny still needs to be fed. She may go into a pet store or grocery store with the bunny in a carrier. Kids are great at asking questions, wanting to pet an animal, etc. That could trigger a parent to recognize Erica.

There is a lot of conversation about the classification of endangered. My undergrad degree is in legal studies and through the process it seemed to me that the words used my law enforcement and courts had a variety of meanings compared to what we commonly associate with the words. There is no official definition of endangered in the Florida Statutes. I did find a general definition that I thought might provide some clarification (I hope this site is considered acceptable, I apologize if not):

Missing endangered person means a person believed to be in danger because of age, health, mental or physical disability, in combination with environmental or weather conditions, or is believed to be unable to return to safety without assistance.
Law Insider - Dictionary

If she has an emotional support animal, she likely has a mental condition (PTSD, Anxiety, etc.) that caused her to get it. This could have prompted the classification as endangered. JMO

According to Cape Police, Johnson's ex-husband said Erica allegedly missed an appointment to meet their children in June due to her work commitments, which Security specialist Rich Kolko said this was her first red flag:
“That means she may have been going through some kind of stressful moment. So that elevates the concern for law enforcement. And her family members. And maybe possibly why they say she’s may be in some harms way.”
Surveillance cameras detected her with luggage on July 8 at 5:21 a.m. and 5:37 a.m. at the Cape Coral bus terminal.

Kolko added:
“They know this woman uses this bus stop. She’s used it at least those two days. Where did that bus go? Did somebody see her get off the bus? Did someone see her get met by somebody when she got off the bus?”

Erica Johnson has been missing since July 8
After she was reported missing, cops visited a residence where Johnson had been staying.

Inside, police found her belongings, minus the pet rabbit, according to WINK.

Investigators were reportedly told that someone saw Johnson enter the building with a black suitcase the week before.

It would not surprise me if a number of things you mention are true. She must be dealing with a lot at once. I suspect it’s a combo of things for her, not just a health diagnosis, to feel she needed to run. Her bunny will help her stay calm thru it. Really hope she comes thru this safely. Her children need her.

This just gets murkier and murkier to me.

Without wanting to sound uncaring, I think we should also avoid reading *too* much into her possible health/wellbeing and the idea of having an emotional support animal. People may sometimes bend this a bit as a way to have or keep a pet that otherwise would not be allowed in a rental.

Not being sarcastic, but don’t you at least have to have a doctors note for that?

it depends. For most emotional support animals you can go online, pay a fee and get a certificate (I did this as a joke when I got my pup several years ago). Airlines, etc. realized this and started clarifying, only allowing “trained” service animals. To get a service animal you have to pay thousands or receive a grant, show proof of your condition (or drs note) and wait years. These animals are trained extensively and take a very long time to get. I just looked into getting a service dog and was told the current wait list is 5+ years.
Side note, I just double checked the airline regulations and they only allow dogs as service animals. Traveling with Pets | Southwest Airlines

Didn’t they have people trying to fly with peacocks and pigs? Is it any wonder they stopped a lot of others? Although some I could still see… bunnies included.

It was a peacock! I was trying to remember what animal prompted it and I couldn't remember the story! Thank you! That would have bothered me all night!
