Absolutely! It would be impossible for an unrelated person to adopt a child without the parents signing away their parental rights. Why are the police assuming the papers are legal?

It really makes me angry that they allow someone not named by the parents to take a child from school and don't even call the parents to find out if it is ok.
Exactly Deb!!
Why is it we get carpal tunnel syndrome signing a billiion papers every year if they just let them go with who ever says they are their to pick them up???

I am wondering if the judge thought she was married to the father still and she was adopting the boy so they would all be family.

I had been told earlier that the boys real mother was dead.Don't know that four a fact. If the ex had her boyfriend pretend to be the dad and they presented papers showing the mother was dead the judge might get fooled.
Of course the adoption would still be illegal. And that would not negate the fathers rights either.

Some districts are different for ages...my son is one of the oldest at 14 in the 8th grade. Here you must be 5 years old by September 1st to enter kindergarten. He is a Sept. BD....

While most of our school are K-5, and middle schools 6-8, we do have a couple of schools that are k-8, better for some kids that would have a difficult time in middle school...

I would guess this is a good possibility. She waited for three years, then went to an out of state court and filed for custody. This woman has a serious obsession problem.
I would like to have this judge's name and know what story she gave him. Usually you can't get custody unless you either file against the father, or claim abandonment (and usually she would have to have the child in her physical custody) or prove the parent is deceased.
How much you want to bet she filed for the custody, and gave a false address for the father.
Since the Dad didn't go to court (because he didn't know) now the kid is sitting there thinking his Dad didn't want him anymore.
That sounds reasonable. It has GOT to be something more then what has been presented in the article. I feel sorry for the KID! He must be freaking out. What a sad Christmas he will have.

Even if this women conned a judge according to the article ony 2 people were authorized to take the child from school.

The school is not the one to judge if adoption papers are legal or not.
They should have informed the dad and called LE.

I can't believe LE is dropping the ball again when a childs life could be in the balance.
They can't call the freakin judge?? Find out what is going on??
No, legal papers over ride a pick up list in the office. We had a case like this in our school. The mom put no pick up for the father. He brought his divorce papers with the judges orders...and we had to let him go.

Did ya let the Mom know when you let the kid go?

Most schools do give a courtesy call to the parent who the child resides with, but they are breaking the law if they do not let a child go with a person holding valid legal papers. As for them being legal...I am sure they checked at the time the father showed up for help. I am not saying the ex didn't do something illegal to get the adoption, but I am saying that since the FBI and the police are telling him to go through the system to get him back...something else is not being told.

Of course!!! We even gave her time to get to the school. We took the kid back to class...and let them hash it out in the visitors room. She left crying...and the child left with the father. I feel so bad when kids are in the middle of a mess like this. I agree something is fishy with this story. SOMEBODY is not telling the whole truth. I hope we hear the rest of the story. POOR KID! :(

We don't let just anyone pick them up. A legal order is something different. Another funny thing about those "pick up list" papers...We had a case where someone other than the person listed showed up....and we refused to let the child go . We called the parents and could not reach them. Then the parents got all mad. We followed those lists to the letter! We still got bashed! LOL...Can't win for losing.:waitasec:

I haven't heard anything yet. And I can't find anything online. Will let you know when they get new info.

I found the school online. It goes to 5th grade and there are only 2 5th grade teachers. This is a really small town.
I looked up them for arrests and neither one has anything against them in FL that they have been sentenced for.
The website for their clerk of courts asks for a case number, or you have to pay for an extensive search. That is what I would like to know about. It would at least show the year they divorced. If they had any filings between them during the past 3 yrs in which the dad says they have had no contact and that sort of thing would help with the picture.
