My parents live in the area so I am quite familiar with where the UID was found. I wish there was more information about where exactly he was found –– was it directly across from Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach or was it on the beach on the north side of the island?

The channel is dredged on a regular basis to allow the nuclear submarines at the naval base in St. Mary's to go in and out, and the beaches are replenished with the sand which is dredged. Since the skeleton is listed as "near or complete," my best guess is that the remains had not been there too long, as they would have been buried under the recently dredged sand (Fort Clinch and the northern part of Amelia Island were dredged in the fall-winter of 2018 -- not sure if the part of the channel closest to Little Tiger Island was dredged at that time as well).
