No news about his identification that I could find. I did find an article from 2021 about his case being worked on by DNA Labs International. The first extraction in 2019 failed to provide a DNA sample as they used a sample from his skull which had been preserved in formalin. In March 2020 his body was exhumed and they sent both femur, or thigh, bones and this time they were able to obtain a partial DNA sample.

[...]
In July, they learned a partial DNA sample was obtained. However, within a few months a new system or process will allow a better sample to be taken, Taylor said.

“Once they get a full profile and they start doing the genealogical search they can actually go out nine generations,” Taylor said. “They can get a ninth cousin and track that back.”

April 28 2025 IDENTIFIED!
  • ''Remains found Oct. 7, 1986, in St. Lucie County have been identified as 39-year-old Blaine Louis Brown, Jr.
  • The identity was learned this year after extensive work involving DNA.
  • Brown, who sheriff's officials say may have been involved in narcotics smuggling, owned a horse ranch and another business in Ocala.''
“According to his family, he was last seen on Sept. 26, 1986, telling relatives he was driving to Miami in connection with horse-related business,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “His leased 1986 gray Ford pickup truck was later found abandoned in a Miami parking lot.”

Sheriff’s officials report they continue to try to identify the person or persons responsible for Brown’s death.''

He was apparently reported missing the exact same day the body was found, 10/7/1986. The main factor preventing this identification was probably the distance between where he was last seen, where his car was found abandoned, and where his body was left.

I also saw this image posted in one of the news articles about his identification with no caption or other information. Is this a photo of him or a suspect? It doesn't really look like him but it said that he was possibly involved in drug trafficking so he might have been arrested at some point: Nearly 40 years later, 'execution-style killing' victim identified

''Investigators are still trying to identify the suspect or suspects responsible for Brown’s murder.

"I want to commend Detective Paul Taylor and retired State Attorney Bruce Colton for their tireless dedication and commitment to this case," St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro said in a statement Monday. "Their relentless pursuit of the truth and years of meticulous investigative work have brought us closer to justice for Blaine Brown Jr. and his family. We will not stop until those responsible are held accountable."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Taylor at 772-359-4407.''
