As it relates to Wendi, the only thing I am 100% certain of is that she lied when she testified about what she knew and, yes, the “don't read, don't listen, don't watch’ was a lie. I agree its possible she was directly involved and she lied about not having any part in the murder, but if she wasn’t directly involved, I can give you several possible theories of how found out and what she knew and when she knew it. One possibility would be it was done behind her back and she found out the day of or shortly after that her family was involved - she was either directly told or figured it out. Another possibility is she was given a heads up (shortly before?) and told to stay out of it and to keep her nose clean – just two possibilities and there could be multiple variations where she didn’t take an active role in the plot to kill Dan but was aware it was her family. In my opinion, there is not a realistic scenario where she wasn’t involved AND by the time she first testified she did not believe or understand her family was behind the murder.
So if she wasn’t involved whether she knew beforehand or found out after he murder that her family was involved – why did she lie? The obvious answer is this type of scenario (your family murdering your ex) is VERY rare and can easily snowball out of control on you, but without knowing what she knew and when she knew it, I can only speculate. I can come up with many theories based on reasonable assumptions off of possible events. Let’s say hypothetically the 18-minute call that AM from Charlie was when Wendi initially found out there was a plan to murder Dan. Her options when Isom interviewed her was to tell the truth and disclose Charlie did it or to play dumb. Since she chose to play dumb, she was essentially locked into or tied to her family at that point – just one example.
Look at the Karen Read Case. If you are familiar with that case and you are in the camp of believing Karen’s SUV did NOT strike Officer John O’Keefe, then you must believe a LOT of people are lying about the events of that night. How does that happen? Not talking a position in that case but MANY people believe multiple people that were in the house that night are lying about the events of that night. IMO, when serious things with serious consequences unfold in real-time, things can start to snowball out of control very quickly. I can easily see how it could have snowballed out of Wendi’s control ‘IF’ she wasn’t involved and started out her initial police interview by playing dumb.
