LOL yes!

And did you notice that she didn’t have those earphones on when the verdict was about to be read? She no longer had to portray the poor old grandma look for the jury. She had absolutely no problem in hearing that verdict.
perhaps someone slipped her a pack of birthday candles or a couple droppers of hydrogen peroxide to clear out her XS ear canals this week 😂

Nailed it. Dan was perfect on paper, it was his personality, devotion to Judaism and authenticity that ground their gears. He was a tool to them, but he was not as easily manipulated as they probably hoped. He was firmly rooted in his moral values, the Adelsons couldn’t stand it.

Lincoln’s bar mitzvah was shortly after Donna’s arrest…maybe weeks to a month, don’t remember. Wendi wore a red dress with a plunging neckline that was totally inappropriate for a Bar Mitzvah. She made a speech where she dared to invoke Dan’s memory in front of everyone in attendance right after her mother was arrested.

I can’t imagine it was fun to try and dodge the questions attendees may have had since Donna’s absence had to have been clearly noticeable.

Exactly! In all respects he was the perfect catch for Donna’s girl. That was totally trashed when things changed.

Yuckkkkk! I can’t believe Wendi dressed inappropriately and made a speech! Unreal and I shouldn’t be surprised with anything that these twisted people do.

It’s funny that the defense opened with how great he was and then went full circle on how terrible he was! The counsellor had a similar story: not contentious at all to constantly badgering Wendi needlessly through emails and filings. I don’t understand that strategy. They must have overlooked that.

Peter was live streaming close by in Tallahassee while waiting for the verdict.
Goes over closing arguments,

1:20:15 verdict

No tears because she has no remorse. Her reaction is because she is appalled, angry, filled with disbelief, "How can you to this to me!!" (That is not a question...it is a scream.)
It certainly seems like they may have Wendi in their crosshairs but my opinion hasn’t changed. The case against her for conspiracy to commit murder will be very difficult and I’m purely basing that on information that’s public. Honestly, I’ve given up making the point that it’s a weak case because somehow people question my motive when I share that view and they believe that opinion is anti J4DM or not in good faith.
Difficult only because they did not have electronic evidence due to the What'sApp being an end to end encryption. Listen closely to GC's post conviction interview!!!
"Because we didn't have the device" and guess what they have now...the device. Even
CA asks from jail to his attorney...."Do you have the phone?" Hmmm.
Hey folks, have any of you read what CELLBRITE can do with communications? Heck countries/governments/interpol pays them to track & intercept international terrorist plots, and track the locations of the callers. I don't think anyone can hide communications once they got hold
of one of the phones....(DA's at the airport & CA's old and new one June U. mentioned he obtained
after Katie's arrest.)
Finding evidence on HA will be the most difficult because he could speak freely with his spouse at home and on long drives to Tally....so the best anyone can do is pinpoint his locations. Unless....he actually was stupid enough to communicate with CA via cell phone/text....Oh geez...."HA's in the shower"? Really? Or he got wet washing the money?

Is this a juror?

Here's my question. Can inmates call each other from their respective prisons?
Absolutely not. No calls, no Jpay/email, no notes. Prison to prison inmate communication would be dangerous. Though messages can be sent ‘out’ and then back inside through the above various means, those are monitored specifically for this kind of chatter. Inmates of the same gender will often meet up again eventually during long sentences as they are shuffled around a state’s prison system, but Charlie and Donna will never be together again virtually or in-person. I guess their lawyers could try to communicate for them. Or they could smuggle in contraband cell phones or something. That would not be beyond this family probably, with financial resources and their lack of moral compass.

It felt weird to me as well. It also felt weird that she had sunglasses inside the courtroom and during the reading of her VIS. Chatters attributed the sunglasses to her apparant fall a few days earlier when she started wearing them inside. I have never gotten a black eye from falling but I guess anything is possible. Also wouldn't you just cover any marks on your face with make up? It's an odd choice to me.

I thought both her and Phil Markel's statements were pretty impactful. They're both great communicators. I'm relieved for them that Donna was held to account cause, I believe as the state does, she was the insigator of this murder. Seeing the statements read as Donna was shaking with rage and humiliation was satisfying. JMO
I thought Dad Markel had sunglasses on one day as well. I assumed they just wanted privacy from the cameras. Can’t blame them

A Harvard graduate right? That had to make Mommy Dearest gloat with pride. He checked all of her boxes for her daughter’s husband. That is until she loathed him for his parental rights and genuine affection.

I can’t imagine having a MIL like Donna. She is dominant and overpowering. Everything is transactional in order to get what she wants.

When is/was Lincoln’s bar mitzvah?
The boys event passed last January.
Imo Donna was not happy Prof Markel left a lucrative position with a big DC law firm and decided to teach instead.
She always wanted a millionaire for Wendi.

How do we know she didn’t have optical surgery? That was my first thought.

If a black eye is bad enough, no amount of makeup is going to hide that. If that’s what happened. As an older lady with less collagen now and skin thickness, what would be a normal black eye to someone younger might look worse for someone her age.

There were moments where Ruth had her sunglasses off that I saw at least a couple times.
Maybe she has migraines, or as I mentioned before, vision issues that would make the fluorescent lights difficult to deal with.

We don’t see the Markells that often, but I think we’re nitpicking here.
She tripped on a curb in Tallahassee and fell on her nose. She had a black eye. If you listen when Georgia is moving the podium and GC says she didn’t want her to trip. She said “I already did”.

Just as disrespectful and surprising to see.
A first for me.
imo
In one video, the photog. was standing @ the front row facing the people sitting there, leaning back in those shorts for the shot.
unhygienic, lol, just imo, speculation

I don't believe she was wearing then at the beginning of the trial. Them was out for a few days, started using them when she returned. I imagined she was using them to hide any reactions she may have had to the testimony that was being presented. But hiding bruising after a fall makes sense.

Yikes!

Had the judge wanted to he could have thrown the photographer out of his court for violating the proper dress code.
imo

So, Dan's sons are approximately 14 and 15 years of age. Is Wendi going to spin their grandmother's conviction? I wonder what was told to them about their Uncle Charlie? Are they being shielded from the truth? If they are in school, kids talk.

JMO.

Perhaps I should know this, but do the Markels now get to spend time with them?

Niner’s the best. I thought she/he was on vacation.

Niner is travelling / vacationing... She will probably pop in !!

Shouldn't the thread name read "5 Guilty"? LR (pled guilty), SG convicted, KM convicted, Charlie convicted, Donna convicted.

Donna's lack of tears and flare of anger when the judge read out the jurors' decision was for show. For people who still believe her story. Likely her grandchildren and people who testified on her behalf ( without being paid) and who have likely chosen not to follow the news as family members / friend are moved through our justice system. It may be impossible for them to reconcile what they want to believe and what is happening. Cannot imagine losing your dad, losing family members to jail, and potentially your surviving parent while people put you at the center point for this tug of war. As we could see during this trial, it was not about a tug of war over the children it was the ego of this family who did not want to lose this battle with this brilliant man - therefore the critical timing of the murder - they did not want to be caught with what DM was going to unmask with his next set of motions. Think this versus well fit what we have now seen and lift any guilt these young, almost men, may be feeling with the story that has been seen up until the evidence of this trial. Of course/ my theory, opinion only.

Thank you, yes. The murder of Dan Markel was only in small part about the children. It was set in motion by the ego of this dysfunctional family, and moved forward by their manipulation of one another. By all accounts, Dan loved his children and he was on his way to being a truly amazing father for many decades of their lives. To have all of this media coverage presenting the narrative that this was only about the boys loads a huge emotional burden they should not have to carry. I expect they are very intelligent, but they are barely teenagers and emotionally at such an impressionable and formative age. I hope Wendi is caring enough to give them counseling with her significant financial resources.
