I still don’t understand why the defense requested that 2nd degree murder and manslaughter was taken off the jury verdict form. Were they believing that Donna would not be found guilty of 1st degree?

I wasn’t sure if there was enough evidence to convince the jury of 1st degree, but I am glad it was. Hopefully, Wendi is next as she definitely had involvement but covered her tracks a bit better.
My feeling is that they dropped the lesser charges because a conviction on those would have also essentially been a life sentence for Donna — no real difference in her quality of life if convicted on those. The burden of proof would be higher for 1st degree murder and Donna’s age and grandmotherly appearance may have caused the jury to take a sympathetically ‘easier’ way out by convicting on a lesser charge. So they were hoping for an acquittal on 1st degree murder instead of conviction on the lesser.

check out the YouTube channel Phone Calls From Prison. There is an entire playlist of calls between Donna and Charlie after Charlie’s conviction. They spoke for many hours. Be forewarned: Charlie is obnoxiously self-absorbed and super repetitive. He bemoans losing the rest of his life and says nothing about Dan Markel’s loss of life. But it is fascinating to hear those 2, the narcissism and entitlement. Also you can hear The famous dropped call when Donna spoke about their plans to travel to a place with no extradition treaty with the United States when she thought law enforcement wasn’t listening.
So will she now bemoan the rest of her life??? So much for spending time with her grandsons. She'll be lucky if they come to visit her.

Yes, they were interesting. But, now that Donna wont be seeing daylight I would love to see what they have to say to each other. Especially, since defense through shade at Charlie and Wendi.

I was lining up in a bakery to buy morning tea for my SIL and his work mates when I checked and found out about the verdict. Ironic.

Glad we will no longer have to see this murderer soon.

May Wendi be not far away

What I noticed: Judge Everett's emphatic "Guilty".

That was comical! He saw right through her from the beginning. His tone was elevated when he reprimanded her about her emotions. “Mrs. Adelson”!!
Kind of like when a parent calls you by your formal name instead of your nickname when you are the child who is misbehaving. Donna!!!!

Excited that we can stay tuned!

Go Get Wendi is right!
As for Wendi, how does she live with herself and sleep at night? Was she even there at the trial supporting her mother at least? (I didn't follow entirely)
Seems she has detached herself. Just like her mother, she seems only concerned about herself, self absorbed and deep down satisfied her mother's and brother's plot worked.
I hope this liar co-conspirator has nightmares about her eventual downfall.
Best she book that one way ticket in advance.

Drama Queen! She is still trying to control things. She isn’t respecting the judge.

Lookout for the fastest appeal in motion.
I actually believe that she can't control herself. Because everything is about HER, so she is devastated.

Of course I don't feel sorry for her in the least. She didn't care about the life of another human being, let alone that he was the father of her grandchildren.

I have neglected to say how impressed I have been with the competence, diligence, and patience of Judge Everett. He did a perfect job of treating both sides fairly and avoiding reacting to provocation by defense antics. He's at Georgia's skill level.

This is was done because the Defense wanted an "all or nothing" verdict. What they didn't want was the jury to down select to 2nd degree if they were undecided. That would have been too easy but it still would have put DA behind bar for effectively the rest of her life.

So the defense and prosecution both got what they wanted. Win-win!

I hope Wendi made it home in time to see the verdict being read and hear the powerful victims impact statements.

He was great in more ways than one. He has respect for the judiciary system and his demeanour didn’t waiver. He was engaged, no slack on his part. I appreciated his gift of discernment.

He was straightforward and professional on all matters. Quiet intelligence and a perfect dry sense of humour. A conversation with him would be fun.

Defense lawyers have some longshot appeal options with which they can fully deplete the boys' remaining inheritance from their maternal grandparents.

Related thought: After this trial, it's not a given that Wendi will have access to the Adelson fortune to pay her top-tier lawyers.

I've followed this case since early on. But I was worried that Donna might get off. I don't know.. maybe they'd have sympathy for an old woman. I was visualizing how smug she would be if she was acquitted or a hung jury.

So to see her reaction when they said guilty .... just absolutely priceless! This privileged woman had everything anyone could want in life - money, real estate in sunny Florida, a loving family, friends, travel, and her health.... and now she will die in a concrete prison cell. She completely deserves it.

I loved Dan Markel's father's last comment - "was it worth it?"

No more sunshines for her!!

I don't want to get my hopes up about any additional prosecutions, so setting that aside, I try to imagine the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday for Harvey and Wendy. Imagine sitting there in your beautiful home knowing your son/brother and wife/mother are in prison for life! They will never sit at Thanksgiving with them again. Or any other holiday.

I imagine Harvey lying down in his 800-thread count sheets, on a cushy, expensive mattress at night knowing Donna is on a thin, maybe 3-4" foam pad, covered in vinyl, on a steel frame.

I cannot imagine what their lives are going to be like from here on out, even if they never have any further legal involvement. Will Harvey have weekly calls with Donna? Will he go visit her? What about Charlie? To have two immediate family members in prison for murder is kind of insane!!!

Agreed on all counts. I especially liked that he read DA's verdicts himself, I checked back and he had the clerk read Charlie's verdicts, no clue why he changed the procedure for DA but I was very glad to hear those Guilty verdicts coming straight from him.

'Mrs. Adelson, CONTROL YOURSELF,' he told her warning her that he would remove her from if she did not, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

'While this was not the outcome I´m sure that you desire, there WILL NOT be any further outbursts in front of the jury.'

Yes!!! I forgot to mention that. It was great hearing him deliver the verdict. He was assertive and he wasn’t going to let a clerk water it down. Haha!

When I looked at it again there is a very brief part where she gets angry. It was her real self on display, she was throwing a tantrum.
