High tide in Gulfport is at 1:59 am. I know I probably won't go to bed until then to see what's happening.

I have a place in Gulfport Fl. it's about 100 feet from Boca Ciega Bay. I have the Gulfport webcams up and running to get an idea how the storm is progressing. It's pretty nerve wracking since I live in Canada and can only just watch and hope the damage is minimal. I can't wish it away from me because it just means someone else feels the wrath. What makes it equally nerve wracking is that we are in the process of selling it and the prospective buyer from a northern state is wanting to see what happens tonight and tomorrow.

Have you checked out the webcams? There's three active ones. One's taken from the Casino looking north up Shore Blvd. One of them, the clearest one is pointing down to the bay from the beach bazaar where the post office is and the third one is the blurriest one looking northwest from the sports complex where the sports area is.

Where are you reading it's coming in as a Cat 4? I know the potential is definitely there that's for sure.

The National Hurricane Center said in its 11 p.m. advisory that Idalia's maximum sustained winds were at 110 mph, just below the threshold for a Category 3 major hurricane.

The NHC said the storm is expected to strengthen further, and that it could make landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida as a powerful Category 4 storm with winds at least 130 mph.

Wind at 105 MPH with wind gusts at 175 MPH.
Cat 4 at 8 AM. Cat 1 at 8 PM. Tropical storm at 8 AM.
Looks like a slow moving storm with a 12-16 foot storm surge.

I'm watching the radar for Crawfordville FL and Yankeetown FL. Both are showing a slight eastward wobble just before a dawn landfall.

I'm watching CNN and they have said it's forecast to be a Cat 4 at landfall. It's still a Cat 2 right now. Sorry, should have been more clear.

Now that it's just a bit northwest of Tampa/St. Pete we're really going to feel the storm surge.

Look at the webcam from the Casino. The surge has already started. Beach Blvd running in front of OMaddy's over to Neptune Grill.

Sarasota is the blue dot - some ferocious bands moving thru at the moment. Blew over my trash can that I forgot to put closer to the house. I forgot to clean my gutters. They're overflowing and the water stream is blowing at a good sideways angle. I keep watching my two new trees I had planted a few weeks ago. My butterfly garden is waving in the wind.

My oldest is very tired but did respond she was watching the updates. I hope she can stay safe and rest. I'm getting tired myself and Banjo the grandkitty seems out of sorts even with his calming meds.

Last I heard it was 130 MPH, CAT 3, and strengthening.

It's a slow moving storm hovering over unusually warm ocean water. Does warm water strengthen the storm? Is that why the storm slows down or speeds up? Cooler water temperatures, faster moving storm, less rain? Warmer water temperatures, slower moving storm, more rain?

At 8 AM local time, the storm is predicted to hit land, possibly as a CAT 4 storm.
