Citrus County is like the forgotten little kid in this story lol Not much coverage of the damage, which is going to be major on the west side of Hwy 19.
They faired exceptionally well, until late morning when the surge came. I was on facetime with my daughter and you could visibly see it rising. These people evacuated...then returned home, only to have their house flood and have to swim out of their windows.
The main road through town, US HWY 19 is shut down at both ends of town due to the flooding. If you look at the map, 19 is approx 9 miles inland from the Gulf, but the Crystal River, King's Bay and all the canals, makes the entire area flood prone.
Just south in Hernando, the entire beach area is shutdown. Roads/homes are flooded. The National Guard is performing rescues. In Hernando, we aren't as dramatic at Citrus County....we take things in stride:
I was incredibly fortunate, to only have a few limbs down and not to even lose power. The home that I was going to purchase, but someone beat my offer, is completely flooded.
My mother's house has started to flood in a converted garage and high tide is not for another hour or more.
My stepmother is trapped in her home in South GA due to downed trees with no power and minimal cell service.
Sounds bad, but could have been so much worse!
