I just realized, this month marks the 10th anniversary that Mr. Zelaya disappeared. 10 years of not knowing for his family. I hope that answers come quick and justice even faster for them.

Police have found the final resting place of a missing Homosassa man, but have yet to discover why or how 61-year-old George “Skip” Zelaya met his end.

Authorities confirmed Monday that a set of skeletal remains found in January 2015 in a wooded area of Homosassa belong to Zelaya, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office. Zelaya was reported missing to the sheriff’s office January 2005.

The sheriff’s and medical examiner’s offices are still continuing investigations into the cause and manner of Zelaya’s death.

Weird that his car was found six miles away. I mean if someone had remembered him calling for a ride home from the shopping center, that person certainly would have come forward. I hope someone saved the envelopes/letters addressed to his brother to check for prints and DNA.

He reminded me of my dad in the picture when he first disappeared and it was in the news. I never forgot his case and when they found the unidentified in Homosassa I googled the map where Skip Zelaya disappeared and where the remains where found and was shocked to see it was just blocks apart. I knew it had to be him. I'm glad the family can have some closure now.

The think with the car; they found his keys at his residence so how did the car get to the grocery store? His wife at the time reported seeing him drive away. How did he get back from the grocery store? Did he get a ride back and then leave his keys at the house and walk off? Why didn't he just drive his car back home? Does not add up.

Citrus County deputies say it is still undetermined how George Zelaya died; he disappeared in 2005

Kathleen, two of her siblings and her sister-in-law flew in to claim his remains.

"We truly believe there was some foul play. I don't believe that our father took his life," Kathleen said.

Finding answers will not be easy.

The family met with Citrus County investigators and were told their father's cause of death remains undetermined.

"It is going to be a mystery for the rest of our lives that we have to live with," Kathleen said.

The siblings were able to see their father one last time.

Workers at the funeral home laid his bones, all intact, out in a casket for them to view.

"It was very shocking and a hard thing to see him, just his skeleton," said Susan Zelaya.

The remains were cremated and they're taking them back to Maryland on Friday.

"We get to take him home," Kathleen said while choking back tears.
