GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Alachua County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of bones, including a skull, found near Interstate 75.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office says a man who lives near the scene found the bones Wednesday morning after his dog dragged them from a wooded area.

Skull and Bones Identified
Friday, February 24, 2006

Investigators have preliminarily identified the human skull and bones dug up by a dog in a southwest Gainesville neighborhood on Wednesday. Officials say the remains are that of Kevin Smetzer. Detectives still do not know the cause of death but do believe he went missing in late summer or early fall of 2005. No missing persons report was filed by Smetzer's relatives. The remains are being examined by University of Florida's Forensic Anthropology Unit to receive positive identification.

How sad, his own brother didn't even know he was missing. I take it they weren't very close.
