I don't know too much about boat accidents but in a boating accidents, isn't it the person who's steering the vessel that is usually okay but it's the person(s) below the deck or elsewhere who are usually injured or the cause of worry because they are least likely to recover quickly for a sudden hit / jolt? As in they hit their head, become unconscious and boat begins to sink? Or their the ones usually thrown over board?

How likely is it that the one steering the boat suddenly thrown overboard and doesn't scream or yell?

How could he be asleep and just casually / gradually wake up because water started entering the vessel... how would he know if he was asleep? How could he sleep through an impact strong enough to throw Isabella over board and just conveniently wake up as water is entering the vessel?

I'd also like to know if a prenup was signed. I wonder if Isabella's family is wealthy... People who have money live in Delray (I'm a local in south FL).

good to see more voices here - that means this is getting more coverage and he won't be able to just sail off into the mystic so easily...

lots of good questions here.

From above link:

"Coast Guard Miami spokesman Eric Woodall said Wednesday that responders inspected the boat 'the best they could from the surface' and found no evidence of any holes where water could have entered - although they did find deep scrapes at the end of each."

"Experts say there are plenty of things that could have struck the boat, such as floating debris."

"Woodall said they can't rule out that Hellmann's body could still be inside the boat but no one has yet been able to go inside to check because of the dangerous way it is lying semi submerged in the water."

Coast Guard refused to comment on whether foul play had been ruled out.

It seems crazy to me that they would search the vast area they have searched , yet not made some attempt to investigate the boat. I don't know anything about sailing or boats, but isn't there some type of watercraft recovery that could flip the boat back over or move it to a less dangerous area?

The boat had been in the Bahamas and its ultimate destination was Boca Raton. The Coast Guard said Bennett was “bringing it over for hurricane season” but could not say from where.

The agency has generated incident reports, but attempts by The Post to obtain them were steered toward a Freedom of Information Request, which can take weeks or months to fulfill.

Bennett is a dual British-Australian citizen; it’s not known how or when he came to Florida. Records indicate he bought the boat in 2013 on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten.

Facebook pages suggest the couple knew each other since at least 2014, around the time Hellmann divorced. They also say Hellmann and Bennett traveled together as far away as Japan and England.

From the article:
"On Wednesday, Lewis Bennett, Hellmann’s husband since February, told WPTV News Channel 5, The Post’s news partner, that he was flying to Cuba to obtain a boat and conduct his own search." (BBM)

So they had been married ... three months, maybe?

Do we know if anyone saw her on the boat? He's the one with boating experience, but she is the one at the helm alone in the dark at 1 AM?

Something is definitely off with this story. What do these two do for a living? Seems all they do is travel. Just how do they make their money? Hmmm.

I don't think this story happened exactly how the husband says it did, but I am on the fence if I think she's missing/dead or if she's in on it. We'll have ot wait and see.

I wonder the same thing. Very odd story. Certainly doesn't smell right.

She's a "real estate agent" - http://www.signatureflorida.com/agents/isabella-hellmann/

I say that in quotes because everyone and their mom down here is a "real estate agent" but very few actually make money and sell properties. Every Uber driver here is also a "realtor". I have no proof whether or not Isabella actually sold properties but generally speaking most people listed as agents aren't really agents or successful ones making money at that. My guess is that she did not make much money as a realtor, the article below says she did it part time. You cannot be a successful "part time" realtor, it's a full time dedicated job to be successful.

And this article says the hubby was a plumber -- http://cbs12.com/news/local/neighbors-worried-about-delray-beach-woman-missing-at-sea

This is why I asked in a previous article if Isabella's family was wealthy...

Notice their baby in the background and NO ring on the finger....

Might have been before they got married. Baby looks to be only a few months old, not 9. Still VERY few pics on her FB of her husband or her baby. Mostly selfies.

  • #78
And where IS the baby when they do all this traveling? Where is the baby now?

A lot of married couples don't wear rings 24/7? I don't understand what you're insinuating.

Some things are missing from this story
