A 52-year-old man in Florida was arrested this week after he nearly beat his dog to death, thrashing the defenseless animal so thoroughly that blood spatter was found in multiple rooms of his home, authorities said. James Michael Lyster was taken into custody on Monday and charged with one count of felony aggravated animal cruelty, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced.

“At the front door, deputies observed blood spatter on the ground leading to that apartment,” the sheriff said during a Wednesday afternoon news conference. “The suspect eventually opened the door, and when asked if he had a dog, the suspect dropped an 8-year-old Pomeranian without saying one word. The shaking dog’s face was covered in blood, and it was actively bleeding from its nose, and it was so injured that it could not stand.”

When the “shocked” deputies asked Lyster what had happened, Lyster allegedly replied, “I got mad,” the sheriff said.

“Blood was splattered across the wall where Lyster had kicked Benji into it,” Marceno said. “Veterinarians discovered that Benji had suffered a broken jaw, internal bleeding in his abdomen, and he will need additional surgeries in the future to remove his broken teeth.”

Lyster is a convicted felon with a history of criminal activity in other states, according to the sheriff’s office.

Should be banned from ever owning an animal ever again. Or even being near them.
Next time it'll be a person

poor doggo
I'm glad Benji survived and can now be adopted by someone who won't hurt him
and I'm glad they didn't just euthanize him; he deserves a chance at life

Being a dog lover, I try not to read related stories, incase, the ending is horrid.
Very pleased Benji survived and will be helped.
Hope the Creep responsible, suffers.

Me, too. I deliberately stay away from hearing about animal abuse. It breaks my heart. I have a chi that means the whole world to me, my bestest friend in the world.

I know I debated it. I usually don't.

I'm glad he was punished for this and that the poor dog was saved.

I sleep with my dog, who is elderly. He now makes a whining noise for several hours each evening before he gives up and passes out. He's on pain meds and my vet assures me the whining is for snacks, not because of pain. He also wakes me up frequently to pee and requires constant attention during the day. My point is that I don't think a person could be pushed harder by a dog than I am, and I don't beat my dog. This man needs to be put away for life.

Anyone who can hurt a defenseless animal is the lowest form of scum!! It kills my soul to hear these stories. Wish we could put all the evil twisted people on an island all their own and just let them kill each other instead of the innocents in this world!

They need to lock him up. Let the animal lovers in jail help him understand his crime. They can straighten him right out.

If this is what he does to a tiny dog, he will graduate to beating, possibly killing, a person.

IMHO First I want to cry. Then I want to do mean things to this creep.
This is purely an observation of human behavior I have noticed for awhile now. I notice many angry older men out alone or with a partner. They behave aggressively (I have been on the receiving end multiple times) in stores, act impatient, and often are with a partner who appears meek. When challenged by one of these aggressive individuals, I wonder if they would behave the same way toward my husband. Recently, I told my husband a nasty acting older man was probably in a hurry to go home and kick his dog. Well, I rest my case. I hope he is NEVER allowed to be near or have human's Best Friend. The only living thing that generally loves us unconditionally. #@$%&* Grrr
