John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said two deputies made the discovery shortly after they began their search Tuesday in an area near where they found Patrick's car.

Herrell said deputies believe the body will be identified as Patrick. An autopsy is expected to take place Wednesday.

The last person to see Patrick, Donald Williams, was inside the vehicle.

"All the evidence clearly points to Donald Willams," Herrell said.

Missing person found dead: All evidence points to Donald Williams

By WDBO Staff @ October 26, 2010 1:35 PM

Polk County deputies found what they believe to be the body of 81-year-old Janet Patrick early Tuesday morning.

It was discovered thirty minutes into a search by two deputies on ATV's in a heavily wooded area near Poinciana in eastern Polk County.

Since Polk County records do not have any missing victims that match the description of the body found, they believe it is Patrick.

.............

Upon further examination, investigators found more evidence pointing to Williams, including a shovel which he borrowed from one of his Polk County acquaintances.

"Her credit cards were found in his wallet," said a Lake County Sheriff's spokesman.

"He is the last person to see her alive, he's given inconsistent testimonies. We have evidence that shows he was in the woods in her vehicle," said Sgt. John Herrell. "All the evidence clearly points to Donald Williams."

Officials are still asking the public to take a look at the vehicle and Donald Williams to share any insight they might have on this ongoing investigation.

Officials 'feel strongly' they found body of 81-year-old Janet Patrick

Authorities think they found the body of Janet Patrick who was last seen with felon Donald Williams at a Publix in Leesburg.

Two Polk County deputies on ATVs discovered the body sometime around 9 a.m. in an undeveloped subdivision in the area of Lake Marion Creek Road and Muskellunge Avenue — about 72 miles south of where Patrick was last seen.

Unpaved dirt roads and patches of overgrown palmetto bushes and pine trees weave in and out of that area. Locals said the area is known as a popular hangout for drug users and others who break into foreclosed and abandoned homes.

..................
Herrell wouldn't disclose the condition of the body found Tuesday, method of death or whether it was buried under brush.

"We do not have a positive ID," Herrell said. "We have a body. We believe it's her."

Pathologists at the Medical Examiners Office that includes Polk County will conduct the autopsy on Wednesday. They will release the cause and manner of death. Dental records will be used to confirm the identity.

Deputies were searching thousands of acres near Cypress Parkway in Poinciana, which spans parts of both Polk and Osceola counties, when they discovered the body.

Body found in Polk Tuesday is Janet Patrick, missing 81-year-old Leesburg woman

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said today that an autopsy has positively identified a body found Tuesday near Poinciana as missing 81-year-old Leesburg resident Janet Patrick.

"We are going to keep moving forward and put all the pieces of the puzzle together to try and determine what exactly took place," said Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Patrick went missing last week. She was last seen with Donald Williams, who has a history of violent felonies, at a Publix in Leesburg.

Williams is considered a suspect in her killing. Deputies arrested him Saturday and he is being held without bail at the Lake County Jail.

The cause of death has not been determined and detectives are waiting on test results to charge Williams with Patrick's murder, Herrell said.

A television reporter informed Williams deputies had found Patrick's body. The convicted felon started declining media interviews today, Herrell said.

A Sheriff's office chaplain has kept in contact with Patrick's family members out of state.
