ETA #2 I’m not going to post again bc i could go on and on about this fool but I’ve never seen anything like this. My guess is neither had the seasoned prosecutor. Nor the judge.

News 6 Legal Analyst Steven Kramer said at this point it's unclear if the testimony helped or hurt the defense team's legal strategy.

"What attorney would go ahead and let a defendant go on the stand, confess to a killing when the death penalty is at issue?" said Kramer.

Kramer said since a judge denied an insanity plea, it's possible the defense allowed him to testify in front of jurors, so they could witness his behavior firsthand.

"Maybe if the jurors heard this testimony, and heard how twisted it was that maybe some juror would believe that something is not right and wonder why there wasn't an insanity defense," said Kramer. “That this guys too far gone you know to understand what’s going on. The lights are on, but nobody's home, kind of argument.”

Kramer said that it might not be a question of whether a guilty verdict will be returned, but instead an attempt to avoid the death penalty.

*Trial continues (Day 5)-Closing Arguments (@ 9am ET) - FL - Jennifer Lynn Fulford (56) (missing Sept. 27, 2017, Winter Park; found Sept. 30, 2017) - *Scott Edward Nelson (53) arrested & charged (10/1/17) & indicted (12/12/17) with 1st degree murder, kidnapping, burglary, assault & battery, (1st degree) car jacking with deadly weapon, (1st degree) robbery with firearm & (3rd degree) tampering with a witness. Plead not guilty. No bond on all counts. DP case.
Trial started 6/10/19 with Jury selection & ended on 6/21/19. Trial started 6/24 & ended on 6/27/19. 12 jurors & 3 alternates.

6/26/19 Day 3: State witness: Ed Bigley, property evidence crime scene technician from Winter Park police. (He collected evidence from Jennifer's car). Christopher Conklin, FDLE Crime Lab Analyst (He tested for DNA on several pieces of evidence. Detective Sharon Wagganer. Orlando Police Det. Brian Ferrerra. State rested its case against Nelson after playing a graphic interview (10/1/17) with detectives where Nelson essentially confessed to kidnapping & killing Jennifer. Jurors will be sequestered. Trial continues on 6/27.
6/27/19 Day 4: Defense witness: Scott Nelson. Was only witness for defense. Defense rests. Judge is sending jury home until tomorrow. Judge & attorneys will stay to go over jury instructions. Closing arguments tomorrow morning, 6/28.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A day after the man accused of kidnapping and killing a Winter Park caregiver took the stand detailing what he said happened on the day of the crime, closing arguments are set to begin in the case against him.

The jury is set to enter deliberations Friday to decide a verdict for Scott Nelson, who investigators say kidnapped Jennifer Fulford from a Winter Park home where she worked, killed her and dumped her body in the woods in 2017.

In a surprising twist on Thursday, Nelson took the stand, testifying that he “wasn’t planning on killing” Fulford.

Scott Edward Nelson intended to kill Jennifer Fulford, so that she wouldn’t be able to identify him as her kidnapper and testify against him, prosecutors argued Friday.

Jurors heard closing arguments from both sides in the murder trial of Scott Edward Nelson, who on the witness stand Thursday admitted to kidnapping the Altamonte Springs woman from her employer’s home – but claimed killing her wasn’t part of his plan.

“There was some suggestion by Mr. Nelson that it wasn’t his intent to kill Mrs. Fulford,” Assistant State Attorney Linda Drane Burdick told the jury. “He said, ‘It wasn’t in my heart.’ ... Can there be any question that Mr. Nelson had more than enough time to reflect on what he was about to do? If not during the drive, once he got there, once he wrapped her head so tightly she couldn’t breathe?”

Nelson’s defense attorneys argued jurors should convict Nelson of the lesser charge of second-degree murder because nothing prosecutors presented suggested Nelson planned to commit murder.

“[Fulford] started to get loud,” Assistant Public Defender Robert Larr said. “He starts getting worried about her making enough noise, of her being discovered.”

Nelson put duct tape on her face to stop her from making noise, Larr said.

“He doesn’t really know what he’s going to do – he’s confused,” Larr told jurors. “At that point, he starts to get upset and irrational.”

But prosecutors argued there is “no set time” for premeditated intent to kill.

“It is entirely irrelevant if he intended to kill her when he knocked on the front door,” Assistant State Attorney Kelly Hicks said. “When he’s stabbing her, there’s not one stab wound. This is seven stab wounds. This is taking duct tape and wrapping it around and around and around her head so that she can’t breathe. That takes time. At the time he is doing that, can there be any other intent other than he wanted her dead?”

So about 2 hours they have been deliberating. Probably just getting the verdict forms filled out GUILTY!!

Unfortunately the jury has asked for the transcript of testimony of defendant and for copies of letters defendant wrote. Judge said, no to transcripts but can get read back on specific requests. And no to copies of letters because they were not entered as evidence.
Very concerning to me that perhaps a juror is believing his statement that he did not mean to kill her. Premeditation was so clear on this case.
This is Florida and I'm still not over the Casey Anthony verdict. I'm suffering flashbacks right now.

Jurors are asking for transcript of Scott Edward Nelson's testimony, as well as letters he sent to state attorney, detective and all the rest of his letters. They can't get transcript but can have testimony read back. Also can't get letters bcuz letters not admitted evidence.
