Looks like the deliberations are going to last longer than the trial lasted.

Does anyone else who watched the neighbors' video appreciate the irony (or karma) involved with all of the thousands of dollars MD boasted about cheating people out of (including his own father's business) and the fact that he was unable to be declared indigent by the judge in order to force the State of Florida to foot the bill for his trial? It's almost as if those ill-gotten gains stood in the courtroom and laughed at him.

I've started getting nervous about the verdict, with the jury still out.........bad feeling in my gut..........I need to step away for while.

I think they have a lot to consider. They sound like an intelligent group that will cover all the bases. Why, because those juries that don't in todays world never live it down. It appears they are not going to rush through and they will consider all the State's evidence. MD came off as arrogant even though he tried to control his answers, he just was not able to help himself. jmo

HLN are saying that there are elderly white men on the jury and one suggested that might be one of the reasons for the lengthy deliberation.

Who knows?

In reading one of MD letters, he mentioned dropping out of high school and going back later to get a GED. Oh, and he implied he was so smart, he was able to pass it without studying or review. I wonder why he dropped out in the first place.....

Just to defend some cases.
My son dropped out, went back to get his GED, and took the pre-test for it and was told my the counselor he was the kind of person who could end up being a PHD (his scores were so high). He also completely aced the actual GED.

As for the reason he dropped out, he just was one of those kids who did not fare well in a High School environment (and I will admit he can be lazy).
Now he is becoming a total tech head and is immersed in computers and maybe moving into programming.

I guess my point is you can be very smart and drop out of school.

PS- I also have an uncle who bummed around for years after high school then went on to actually become a chemical engineer with a PHD and a ton of patents....ya just never know!

ETA- I should also add I am not defending Michael Dunn here. There are many ways you can be BOTH smart and incredibly ignorant...

Keep in mind folks, that Jacksonville is the largest land mass city in US iirc. The city incorporated most of the entire county. I live near "ATLANTA", but crime stats for Atlanta are not where I live. Farrrrrrrrrrr from it.

It's comparable to the news that was nationwide about the shutdown due to ice 2 weeks ago. That was inner city/downtown Atlanta. A bad rap (pun not intended, but now that I type it I see it might be seen as such) for the city as a whole. Jacksonville is a very nice place to visit, and as with most large cities, there are areas to avoid.

Hi, same thing in Cleveland Ohio. Beautiful sections and Ugh!!!:loveyou:

If listening to our music with tons of base makes us thugs (me Too) I don't blame you for being scared. I was home in the spring one year cleaning and listening to Sheena Easton and dancing must have been in the 80s, I went to answer the door bell and there was a policeman standing there. He Told me someone called in a noise ordinance complaint on me. My 3 kids were at school in the middle of the day, who could I have been bothering.? Well it was an older man next door.
Nowadays if it was someone like MD and if the guy would have come to complain to me with me standing there with a long telescoping duster in my hand he would have shot me. LOL In todays world with the short fuse so many people have we could all be counting our days. Those are the things that have to change. My son was into heavy metal he had a band in our garage, same for him not a lot of people liked heavy metal in our neighborhood. What can we do to change the perception people do not have the right to shoot for simple incidents?

i agree, but i don't think you have to worry about being shot. heres an example of what i mean. i live in a so called upper class neighborhood. i decided at the new year i'd get in shape. the first day i decided to go for a run, i got stopped by the fort bend police. they asked me what was i running from. even tho i had on what i considered as work out clothes, but i guess it was "🤬🤬🤬🤬" clothes to them. they wanted id. i didn't have any. just a cell phone. sat in the back of the cop car for 45 minutes while they ran my name and background. luckly i know my license number by memory.

if the police came to my door, i wouldn't open it. more than likely, i'd get tazed. or even worse. i'd get shot, then they would say i was high on pcp and out of control.

High-five to your son :) One of mine also had to drop out. Went to GED school, then to community college, now he's serving in the military and doing great.

I think the fact that MD seemed to think that he was "above" the actual GED classes is what Nymeria might have been pointing out? I read the letter, and he seemed to be insulted that he might have to take classes. My opinion, though, and I don't want to put words into Nymeria's post :)

O/T Nymeria, your screen name is making me wish for April, when the show comes back on!

Is there such a thing as a "Belated Happy Valentine's Day to My Dear Husband" card?

I've been so busy with all this trial business, I never got him one! We gave up on gifts years ago, we give gifts to each other all the time.

Guess I'll buy him dinner tonight. He'll probably order a kiddie hamburger with mac'n'cheese an cost me about $3.50.

I have been following some of the coverage of this case on the news. I doubt the jury will be able to find him innocent when he didn't even call 911 and carried on as if nothing had happened after the shooting. His wife's testimony is really damming and the content of his jail letters show he is racist. I think it will be life without parole anything less would be unjust. Everyone's updates and opinions have been helpful and interesting. Like all of you I will be interested in the verdict.

Just jumping and before I head off to class but I just wanted to say that I blasted loud music this morning on my way to work in honor of Jordan Davis. it was rave music so it didn't have quite the same effect but...I hope when I send my students home I'll get on here and we'll have a just verdict. happy Valentine's Day everybody and have a great day!

I know, we have been looking for the GoT special addition ales to celebrate with when it returns :loveyou: (not having much luck, they are scarce!).

Zuri wrote the original post, and I see what you (and likely Zuri) are saying.
I personally don't know in the MD case, judging on the little I have watched of him I have to say he is an arrogant ****** and you are probably right!

If I seemed like I was being defensive I didn't mean to sound that way :blushing:
Just pointing out drop outs can turn around and do amazing things :)

ETA- ^5 to your son too! :)
