“I am desperate; I am trying not to lose hope,” the distraught mother said.
Last September, she said her son began making cryptic comments.
Amid a custody fight, Concepcion recorded some of the conversations she had with her son, who is in the autism spectrum.
“Bad people trying to take me away,” Jorge said. “Mommy will protect me.”

Did Jorge have any family up that way?

I'm wondering just how much cash Jorge has on him...
  • He's been paying his expenses in cash for the last year.
  • He sold his home.
That money is going to run out at some point. Hope it's sooner rather than later. MOO

US Marshals are now offering a reward.

(WSVN) - The U.S. Marshals are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the father and grandmother of a 6-year-old boy who has not been seen in a month.

According to police, Jo-Jo was likely abducted on Aug. 27 by his father, Jorge Morales, 45, and his paternal grandmother, Lilliam Pena Morales, 68.

Both are wanted on a felony charge of custodial interference.

The U.S. Marshals are offering a reward of up to $5,000 each for information leading to their arrest.

************

I'm surprised that the reward isn't for information leading to the safe return of the child.

Car abandoned in Maine had objects belonging to Miami-Dade boy who vanished in August

"The U.S. Border Patrol found the vehicle in Littleton. According to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, a bear hunter found some personal items that detectives believe to be related to the case. A private investigator said the items belonged to Jorge."

The vehicle was found on Foxcroft Rd which runs between Houlton and Littleton, parallel to the Canada/US border.

Poor kid, bet he is really missing his mom and daily routines, imo.

"Jorge 'Jojo' Morales has been missing for a month as of Tuesday, with police on the hunt for his father, Jorge and Jorge's mother, who kidnapped the 6-year-old to keep him away from Jojo's mother Yanet Concepcion.

Private investigator Joe Carillo and Concepcion pleaded for them to bring the boy home Tuesday, saying, 'Please rethink what you did. You know things aren’t going your way. Do the right thing.' ''

Detectives think the 45-year-old Morales had been planning this for a year, according to Local 10. Concepcion says her ex-husband was looking into how to live 'off the grid'

''Miami-Dade police believe the child, his father and 68-year-old grandmother may be in Maine or Eastern Canada and have asked anyone with information to contact them.''

Lilliam Morales also has gone by Lilliam Boyssen, Lilliam Boissen and Lilliam Peña. The 68-year-old has brown hair, brown eyes, stands about 5-foot-4 and weighs about 175 pounds.
***************************

Interviewed on Nancy Grace’s Crime Stories podcast Thursday, Jo-Jo’s mother, Yanet Concepcion, says her son is “on the higher end of the autism spectrum.” Concepcion said Jo-Jo doesn’t have conversations in the manner of most 6-year-olds, but can express himself and repeat things he’s heard. Jo-Jo walks on the tips of his toes, she said, and, like many autistic kids, flaps his arms when excited or angry.
*****************************

Last Oct. 28, Jorge Morales and Lilliam Morales sold the three-bedroom, two-bathroom Homestead home they bought a year earlier, getting a $100,000 profit and a renter’s freedom. One database says Jorge Morales was a licensed registered nurse and one of his past addresses is 1916 NW 84th Ave. in Doral. That’s the same address on the Florida Department of Health profile for registered nurse Jorge Gabriel Morales, whose license has been delinquent since July 31.

I just listened to the Nancy Grace podcast linked in the previous post. In general, i"m not a fan of NG, but this podcast is very interesting and I recommend listening to it.

Along with the mom, Yanet, NG talks to Joe Carillo, the PI; to Mark Klaas; Randy Kessler, attorney; Dr. Shari Schwartz, forensic psychologist; and David Neal, Miami Herald.

Yanet describes the treatment and education that JoJo is receiving and the progress he has made. It is really criminal for his father to have removed him from his routines and from the therapy he is receiving.

Yanet says that her ex-husband, Jorge, has become a different person since the divorce 3 years ago. When he sees her, he tells her that he has to pray the devil out of her head and that she is going to hell because of the divorce. Jorge's mother told her that she would show her what divorce really means. Jorge used to take JoJo to church, but JoJo told his mom they don't go to church any more because the church praises the devil.

JoJo repeats words that are said to him, without really understanding the meaning. Such as, saying that his dad was going to take him to live with windmills. The most chilling of all is the rhyme he says his father taught him -- something like "you are going to heaven before you are seven." Jorge also told JoJo he is going to be an angel. When Yanet heard this, she became alarmed and reported it to the court, but the PI says that the judge didn't want any part of it.

The PI talks about Jorge's fanaticism and his involvement with groups of like-thinking people who don't trust the government, are preparing for the end of the world and want to go off the grid. He said they have found a lot of information that can't be made public at this time. It sounded like he was implying that some of the people in these groups are talking about what they know. The PI said that he thinks that Jorge's mother is steering the ship. After the divorce, Jorge and his mother moved in together and have isolated themselves from everyone else.

The PI said that they were able to locate the northern Maine, Canadian border area by putting together things that JoJo had repeated -- such as the remoteness of the area and the many windmills combined with other things he had said. It was through this, that they had learned about the car that was found in that area on August 29.

The PI says that Jorge is believed to be armed and that he should not be approached.

A registered nurse, a real estate agent, and just sold a house. Jorge Sr. could be pretty flush with cash. If he got into one of the militias or prepper groups up that way, the three might have a lot of help.

I wonder if the Dad has the boy's birth certificate. If they went into Canada, the Dad would have to show ID at the border. He'd have to state his purpose and say how long he intended to stay. It would be tough to live off grid that far north, particularly thru the winter.

Southern New Brunswick is considered one of the best places to live off grid in Canada. It also has several areas where there are wind farms and is very remote in some areas. Before NB built Hwy 2, the extension of the Trans Canada highway, you had to drive through logging roads that had no shoulder and nothing for miles and miles.

I also think if this guy is planning to live off grid, he obviously has planned for it over time. He got rid of his house, he uses cash, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he took a page out of Vicky White's playbook and paid cash for a couple of vehicles, leaving the others behind as he moved closer to his target area. I don't see him going through a legitimate border crossing if he is in New Brunswick. I just hope he's aware there are lots of bears in NB and Maine if he's planning to hike somewhere.

And whether he's in Maine or NB, rural people are very aware when newcomers come into their orbit. Even though both locations are off-grid friendly they are both very rule driven. Unless he set all this up before he became a felon, I can't see him being able to meld into the location without having to identify himself to certain retailers, etc.

I just don't understand why he would take a child with autism to an environment that lacks enrichment. That little boy is not going to flourish there. It is very concerning the comments JoJo parroted about being an angel before he's seven. I hope LE is checking to see whether there is any evidence JoJo was in that last vehicle.

I am not feeling good about this one.

I have a good feeling he will make it home. I don't even know why, I'm not psychic but something tells me dad's dream of becoming Tarzan will be very shortlived.

The PI found surveillance video in Maine showing JoJo, his father and grandmother. It is was taken at a Walgreens a few days after they went missing. The PI says that information they have received from search dogs makes them believe that they have gone to Canada.

Video at link.

I hope you're right. Nearly 60 days have elapsed since he was abducted by his father and over 50 days since they were seen in a Maine Walgreen's. I think they need to focus on the grandmother since she is less likely to ring any alarm bells interacting with retailers. She can change the way she looks a lot more than JoJo and his father.

People from Miami don't know the meaning of cold if they've never experienced the northeast of the US and Canada. If JoJo and his dad are in that area it will be a wake up call when it really gets cold. I would hazard a guess that inland areas of Maine get even colder than New Brunswick.

If I was the FBI and the RCMP I'd be reviewing the immigrant flow that came north to Portland Maine. Whether immigrants were sent north by the governors of Texas and Florida they still ended up in the same places. A few made it through to Canada.
Those that stayed are documented and sent to areas where the infrastructure could deal with the volume. It would be easy for an individual to hide in plain sight with some of those immigrants. You ditch your identification and become one of the masses. The only glitch in that plan would be a little boy who speaks English. Out of the mouth of babes, as they say.
