Body found in trunk of car in Walmart parking lot, police say

A man who followed what he believed to be his missing brother’s car to a Florida Walmart’s parking lot Thursday led police to the grim discovery of a man’s body inside the trunk, authorities said.

Miami-Dade Police said a man told officers he spotted what he thought could be his missing brother’s white Honda Accord and followed it from Monroe County to the Florida City store. The man had reported his brother missing on Tuesday, FOX Miami affiliate WSVN-TV reported.

Police arrived in the parking lot to find two men and a woman inside the car. Officers said a foul odor coming from the vehicle led to the grisly find inside the trunk, the Miami Herald reported.

Missing Florida Man Found Murdered in Car Trunk

A police report says the body of 39-year-old Jose Munoz was wrapped in plastic and there were blood stains in the trunk.

The car's driver, Justin Earnshaw, was detained and later told detectives that he had become irate with Munoz at a hotel and had punched and strangled him.

He was booked in Miami-Dade’s jail on charges of second-degree murder, grand theft, giving a false name and a charge of cocaine possession, records show.

According to police, after his arrest, Earnshaw — who has no listed permanent address — confessed to killing Munoz.

He told investigators that “he became irate with the victim” several days earlier while they were in a hotel room and punched Munoz several times in the face and neck. After choking Munoz, Earnshaw strangled him again with a telephone cord to make sure he was dead and then wrapped the body and put it in the trunk of the Honda, the arrest report said.

Earnshaw is charged with second-degree murder. Court records show no attorney for him.

Earnshaw, who was reported as the driver and was accompanied by William Earnshaw, 60, and Cameron Billings, 28, had originally given investigators a false name, “Humphrey Thomas.” He said he had rented the vehicle from Munoz a week ago.

Police then made the gruesome discovery of Munoz’s body wrapped in plastic and bed sheets in the trunk, where a foul odor had been emanating, according to Earnshaw’s arrest report.

Also discovered were four crack pipes containing a cocaine residue on the driver side door.

Earnshaw allegedly told investigators that days earlier he had become irate with Munoz at the hotel where they were both staying and began punching him in the face and neck before choking him until he was no longer breathing, according to the report. He then strangled him with a telephone cord to make sure he was dead before putting him in the trunk, according to the report.

Wow. Following people who are riding in your brothers car and find out he was in the trunk. Very sad.

I bet it was robbery motivated but of course the killer is saying he just became irate. Smh.
