Do you know what this information means?
Visual, Radar, Trackline, other, night search?
Visual is visually spotting for craft, radar is getting a radar "ping" off of a vessel", trackline is a US Coast Guard method of navigation and night search is well, searching at night (though I don't know what different methods are used as opposed to daytime).

I just heard on the TV News this afternoon that a fishing tackle bag belonging to one of the men has been found to the North of their last position. The family is hoping that the men threw it overboard hoping it, and then they will be found floating in their boat, in the Atlantic safely.

I see that GraceG has already answered, otto, but just wanted to add this - think of the trackline method as a grid search, only on the water. So, just as SAR team spaces themselves in a grid search on land, ships will go back and forth according to a specific width along the track lines. Hope that makes sense. :) MOO

Search continues for boaters who disappeared off Port Canaveral
The wife of one of two firefighters lost at sea says a tackle bag that belonged to her husband was found Monday 50 miles off the coast of St. Augustine.

[...]

They were boating toward a fishing spot known as 8A reef. McCluney works for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, and Justin Walker is a master technician for the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department in Virginia. The Jacksonville Fire Department said 50 of its firefighters are assisting on 11 boats.

[...]

Following the discovery of McCluney's tackle bag by a Good Samaritan, the Coast Guard said it will be focusing on the area where that bag was found.

[...]

The men's family's said they are confident the men know what to do to survive.

"Brian is survival trained through the military, Navy. I know Justin is probably one of the most resourceful men I've also ever met. If there were ever two men that you would want to be stuck anywhere with, it'd be these two," McCluney said.

I am so inspired by all of this!

Prayers! Volunteers! Communication! Combing the beach for 'breadcrumbs'.

Not only are they getting their message out there and gaining resources....but their faith is loud and strong!

I love the interview with Brian's wife. We get to hear alot about him in a few short minutes.

Every missing person deserves to have a little army like this out searching and praying for them.

I hope these men get to hear about how much love they are being shown.

I really hope they are found!!

SABBM:

Stephanie McCluney shared with CBS News that the boat had experienced previous mechanical problems. “We know these things happen. It’s not the first time the Coast Guard’s been called or Sea Tow has been called,” she said in a phone interview. They’ve been out there before to tow us back in,” she said in a phone interview.

“Mechanical issue on the boat. I’m guessing, mechanical, electrical. They’re just sitting there floating with no systems working right now, waiting to be picked up. Drifting,” she told CBS4

I had been following this on a Central Florida news site that stated the boat they were on was in need of repair or had repairs done and they were testing it to sell. Also I was aware of the storms off the coast of North Fl. since Thursday evening, how would they not know about the weather?
Bad combination of boat with mechanical issues and bad weather. They need to look further north following the Gulf Stream.

I know I read about the mechanical issues on Click 6 but can not find it now, will keep looking.I think they might have removed this info from the articles.

I read the same with more detail, but here is part of an article stating problems.

Coast Guard searching for Virginia firefighter who disappeared on a Florida fishing trip

"The mens’ boat belonged to McCluney’s late father, who passed away last month, according to McCluney’s brother Kevin. McCluney’s wife told CNN affiliate WKMG that the boat has had mechanical problems in the past."

And you are correct about the disturbance off the coast around that time. I remember seeing the weather news and waiting to see if it would head north to Jersey Shore coast. It was supposed swing east and head out to sea, so maybe wold not have been a factor, though seas could definitely have still been rough on Friday and Saturday.

A Florida fire official says his department is ramping up its search for two firefighters who've been missing since going boating in the Atlantic Ocean last week.

Jacksonville Interim Fire Chief Keith Powers said the agency needs as "many boats as we can get" to assemble Tuesday morning as the search for Brian McCluney and Justin Walker continues. The men set out in their 24-foot (7.3-meter) boat from Port Canaveral last Friday.

Does anyone know how stocked with supplies they were - water, food? They hadn't intended to be out very long but I think these guys were the type that might have prepared for the "what ifs".

I hope so too. BMc's wife stayed it was to be a short trip and she gave them til 6pm before she started to be concerned, in case they had found good fishing, They were also getting ready to sell the boat(as per article above) and so how much would have been on board I don't know. Always a good idea to stack extra water and food/supplies, for sure.
