SHE WALKED AWAY FROM A GAS STATION SHE VISITED OFTEN — AND NEVER MADE IT HOME.

THE DISAPPEARANCE OF KAMELA JOHNSON
Jacksonville, Florida — October 8, 2025

Thirty-two-year-old Kamela Johnson, a mother of four, was last seen on October 8 near 45th Street and Avenue B in the Moncrief area — close to the Gate gas station, her family says she visited often.

According to her family, Kamela hasn’t contacted anyone since that day, something they describe as completely out of character.

“No one has heard from her, no one, and it’s been 40 days as of today,” said her aunt, Carolyn Jennings. “She’s a real sweet girl. She always keeps a smile on her face. She doesn’t start trouble. She’s too small to be in any kind of trouble.”

According to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report, Kamela’s husband told officers she left walking toward 45th Street and Avenue B and said she would be home later that night, but never returned. Police canvassed the surrounding area but found nothing.

The case was later cleared but then there was evidence she didn’t leave on her own.
“It’s like she just vanished,” Jennings said. “It’s not like her to just not reach out to anyone. She always stayed in touch.”

Her family has been putting up flyers, talking with neighbors, and sharing her story online. “Even bus drivers have commented on my posters and said they’ve seen her before in that area,” Jennings said. “They’re going to keep looking out, so if anyone does see her, I really hope they reach out so we can finally get some closure.”

Kamela is described as 5'2", weighing just over 100 pounds, with long curly hair.
“We want to find her because she has family and we want her home,” Jennings said. “We all love her, and her kids miss her too.”

The family is organizing a search party and asking for prayers as the search continues.
If you have any information, please contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or her family directly at 904-376-9344.

Who last saw Kamela after she walked away that afternoon?

Why did she disappear from an area she was familiar with and visited often?
What happened between her walk toward 45th Street and the moment she vanished without a trace?

Her family has been carrying this fear and uncertainty every single day, and they deserve the answers that have been missing since the moment Kamela walked away and never came home.

More than 40 days have passed since Johnson was last seen by her husband, Darrell Johnson, on that Wednesday evening. She was most likely heading to Gate, a gas station at 5508 Moncrief Road. He told police that his wife normally spends time there, according to a Nov. 1 incident report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reviewed by PEOPLE.

Darrell reported Kamela missing just over a week later on Oct. 16, and family members later confirmed to officials that she struggled with substance abuse and would often hang around “notorious drug locations,” according to the report.

By Nov. 1, Kamela’s ex-boyfriend, Jeremy Womack, also reported her missing after he hadn’t heard from her since around Oct. 8. He became concerned when he received text messages from a strange number, alleging to be Kamela, on Oct. 16. He said he never heard back after asking for the person’s real identity, according to the report.

“As far as the local police, because she is an adult and she didn't have any issues with mental illness, they're basically just saying that she has free will,” says Muller (her mom,) who is caring for Kamela’s children. The kids range in age from 6 to 11.

Suspicion grew after Kamela’s ex-boyfriend, Jeremy Womack received texts on Oct. 16 from a strange number claiming to be her. Womack said he never got a response when he asked for the sender’s identity. Investigators later traced the number to two people who “appear to have no connection to Kamela,” according to the sheriff’s report.

Muller told People the family is frustrated with the limits of the police response. “As far as the local police, because she is an adult and she didn't have any issues with mental illness, they're basically just saying that she has free will,” she said.

Kamela’s mom also mentioned that Kamela being gone for a few days was never odd because she would check in and she wouldn’t go farther than her regular spots. Muller added that Darrell was Kamela’s “home base.”

She just has one recent (2024) misdrmeaner case in the county records, likely related to behaviors from the stated drug use and in which she pled guilty to violating her probation on previous charges. It's disposed although the case fees due were noted as going to collections in May of 2025. CORE - Clerk Online Resource ePortal. Case No. 16-2024-MM-004589-AXXX-MA Previous matters (mostly minor traffic and family court type cases related to support, etc) are all closed.
