The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that investigators are searching for human remains on the Westside.

''JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday that investigators are searching for human remains on the city’s Westside.

JSO said the area of interest is near Chaffee Road and Crystal Springs Boulevard, but declined to elaborate on the case related to the search.

Sky 4 flew over the scene Wednesday afternoon and could see three yellow bulldozers and investigators with shovels searching a vacant lot next to a gas station. There was also a green and white excavator digging in the woods as well as tents and a mobile command post.''


''A JSO spokesman did tell News4JAX the search does not involve Iyana Sawyer, a pregnant 16-year-old girl who was last seen leaving Terry Parker High School in December 2018. Quiles, 34, was indicted in 2019 on murder charges in the death of Sawyer and her unborn child and is going to trial soon.''

There are woods to the SW from there. To the NWW there is a large 'pond'? The grassy area itself doesn't seem to be a place where someone would dump a body, but the areas surrounding it would definitely qualify.

Yeah, the Shell station, the Circle K, and the Exxon station are all listed as 24 hours, so driving around wouldn't attract any attention. It even looks like there are a couple of spots where you could drive from the Shell parking lot into the field as well as right up to the trees in back.

It's right off I-10.

Google Street View has several historical views of that particular area and patch of land dating back from February 2008. This area seemed to be fenced off in the February 2008 view versus the view today.

Belated reply: Usually it means they got a tip about the location of the remains of a known (to LE) victim. Around here, for instance, there will periodically be activity around possible leads to the whereabouts of Cathy Malcolmson, who disappeared and is believed to have been murdered in 1985. When no information is released, that often indicates an FBI case.
