FL FL - Kevin McGrath, 26, missing from a cruise ship, Miami, 4 Sept 2023

  • #21
"We know that at 3:30 in the morning, he used the key card to get back in the room and anytime between then and 7:30 in the morning when he was supposed to meet my family for breakfast is when he went missing," his sister said.
Some MSM reports and missing posters indicate KM was staying in cabin 1326 aboard the Conquest. This is an interior cabin with no balcony where someone could accidentally fall or jump overboard. This would mean he would have had to exit the room between 3:30a - 7:30a. I know most cruise ships have extensive surveillance video systems, so it seems (imo) that cruise officials would have been able to observe KM movements once he left the cabin.

Two things from the updated article:

1. "Cruise employees performed an "extensive" search of the ship, but the spokesperson said the 26-year-old wasn't found."
2. "McGrath wasn't detected by the ship's surveillance systems and wasn't seen by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol during the cruise's debarkation process."

So that theoretically leaves out 'stowaway', and it also leaves out 'he ditched his family and completed the CBP disembarkation process normally'.

According to this Business Insider article, the last person to see him was his BROTHER, and that's the cabin mate referred to. This article also says the last sighting was at 2am (by the brother), and that he was reported missing at 7am. The Fox article says the last sighting was at 7am, so we have some conflicting info.

Coast Guard is searching the area.

I'm kind of surprised CBP & Miami police cleared the ship to depart again, but the almighty dollar and all that.
Kind of weird he was reported missing by 7 am. If he was just late to breakfast , why would he be reported missing? I don't get that part.

Did he have a reason not to return to Miami at that time? Any reason to disappear?

He seems to love his little babies so much. I don't get the feeling he planned on leaving them. Makes me think he didn't run off on purpose, or jump on purpose. JMO

Strange. What is it with cruise ships. I mean, it’s not as though you’re out in the wilderness on a hiking trail, where you can easily get separated, get off trail, then lost. There are people all around on a ship. It’s just eerie. Jmo
100% agree & I don’t understand people who fall overboard either, I thought all railings were chest height so I’ve never understood how anyone could possibly ‘fall’ overboard?

“All of our emotions are up and down right now,” McGrath said. “All of us.”

Her brother, 26-year-old Kevin McGrath, a father of two, has been missing since Monday. He was last seen in his cabin around 7 a.m. Monday morning on a Carnival cruise ship heading back to Port Miami. The trip was a birthday celebration for their father.

“The whole point of the cruise was to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday, and it was a big group of about 40 people,” she said.

“He wasn’t in the room,” McGrath said. “No one could find him. No one.”

“My jaw just dropped,” said friend Mitchell Branch. “I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say.”

Branch said he and Kevin served in the U.S. Army together.

“We were in the same unit, same battalion, same company,” he said.

“He’s always the light of the room,” Branch said.

“He has this huge personality that will definitely stick out in any room,” McGrath said. “He’s very straightforward, goofy, he’s funny.”

“My brother didn’t just vanish,” McGrath said. “Someone knows something. Someone’s seen something. I just want my brother home. My family wants my brother home. Just please, we need him home.”

None of the info floating around makes any sense to me. When his brother saw him in his cabin at 2AM was Kevin McGrath already in the cabin settled in for the night? Was his brother that saw him settling in for the night? Did they leave the cabin together? Did he leave by himself? And so on….. also, they were traveling with a large group of people, 30-40 people, so I would venture to guess that a lot of that group had cabins in close proximity to one another and that others from the group would have been in the dance club too. Info reported says that they show his sign and sail (key) card was used to enter the cabin at 330 AM but they have not confirmed that it was actually him that used it.

Agreed. We were on a cruise where someone jumped off the ship. It was horrible. Truthfully, IMO, (after being onboard when someone jumped overboard) my husband and I paid closer attention to the railing heights and neither of us think anyone could just fall overboard unless they were climbing on the railings, leaning way over them etc.

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a passenger who vanished as a Carnival cruise ship was returning to Miami earlier this week.

Kevin McGrath, 26, was last seen on the Carnival Conquest early Monday as it was returning to PortMiami, Miami-Dade Police said.

According to the cruise line, the man was reported missing by a family member who said he'd been last seen in his cabin around 7 a.m., around the time passengers were beginning to be let off the ship...

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I read somewhere that there is video that someone took on a cell phone of him dancing in the club onboard the ship the night he disappeared. I keep wondering if that video was definitely from the night he disappeared or if it was from a previous night.

Another quote of “last seen at 7am” (vs 2am).

They seem to be referencing this article:

But that article still doesn’t tell us for sure *who* saw him last, and exactly where he was when they saw him.

This!! I want a dang time line of events from the time they got back on the ship in Bimini. I want them to say, he boarded at X time, with these people, we all met for dinner, went to a show at this time, went to the casino onboard, etc.

Sorry guys, I’m so fired up and perplexed by this whole thing. Here are some things that I just need to put out there.

Kevin McGrath is a twin. His twin brother Andre is the last person to see him in his cabin ant 2 AM according to what’s being reported.

There is a ferry that runs 3 times a week between Ft Lauderdale and Bimini. The only documents required to take it is photo ID and birth certificate. The same ferry company also runs to Freeport Bahamas from Bimini.

Private boats/yachts also can make the trip easily between South Florida and Bimini.

If someone wanted to disappear, seems like with greasing a few palms and a little planning, this would be a perfect way to do so.

I’m generally not a conspiracy theorist and lord knows I hope and pray this man is safe somewhere and didn’t go overboard.

I think they must have noticed him missing first, at about 2 am. His brother may have come back to the room at 2 am and KM wasn't there....then at 7 am at breakfast he didn't show up?

Does anyone feel like they can make sense of the timeline and possibilities in this case?

It doesn't sound like he fell into the water, since nothing was detected, but I don't want to make assumptions.

It sounds possible that he chose to leave the ship, and there could be many reasons a person would do this, although it's out of their normal character.

Hopefully he left the ship after it docked and is somewhere safe...

The weird part is, I don't think anyone can just leave the ship without someone in authority knowing about it. At least in the few cruises I've been on, you have to go out a checkpoint, and only at certain times. There is no open exit that one can use.

Once it's docked, they still keep close track of who is leaving. In my experience anyway. Maybe this one is different since it is sooooo big?

We have sailed on the Conquest before along with many other Carnival ships both larger and smaller than it. Entry and exit is very limited with a lot of security and crew around to keep it orderly. (For the passengers anyway, not sure about crew exits) I think if he were able to get off the ship without getting his card scanned then it would have to be a complete fluke or assisted by someone else. Also, I feel certain that he would have had to pass by a camera on his way off if he went through the normal exit through the atrium and onto the gangway. Also, he would be seen on camera in the port building itself since more often than not that line moves slowly to get down to retrieve your luggage and go through customs.
