I wonder if he was partying a bit too much, lost his balance and fell off the edge of the pier. Mallory Square is a huge tourist attraction at sunset each evening. There are performers and little tables set up to sell things people make. People stroll thru and buy snacks, art, watch live shows, etc.

Someone likely would have seen him fall, I think, but it’s also possible no one did. Either way, he must have been alone, since no one noticed his absence and reported him missing. I wonder if he was a local or just visiting?

I seriously doubt he was local. Key West population isn’t that large until the Halloween events, then it’s super crowded. I’ve been there many times and you learn the times to avoid.

A lot of people end up in Key West to drop off the grid so to speak...I would imagine that was the case back in '83 as well. If that was what he was doing then it would stand to reason that family and friends would have had no idea he was there.

He was found at 1.00 a.m. on June 11th, and the ME estimated he had been dead two to three hours, placing his death late on June 10th. The Latin American Chamber of Commerce sponsored the “Semana Alegre” from June 11th to June 19th, among the many events was a Kite exposition and a Domino tournament. I wonder if John Doe was there to attend one of those events?

I am also curious if the ME tested his BAC and VAC, and screened for drugs?
