Whether an insulin purchase requires a prescription in Florida does depend on the type of insulin. My father has type 2 diabetes. He used to use a 2x/day injection (traditional vial and needles), which did not require a prescription. Still had to be picked up at the pharmacy due to the refrigeration requirements. He now uses an insulin that's 24-hour pen based. That requires prescription for both the insulin and the pen needles. I don't know what insulin options and prescription options exist for an insulin pump.

My father’s not in Florida, but he’s lived in Tennessee, Arkansas and Oklahoma with his insulin pump and requires prescriptions for his insulin. Docs test him regularly and make adjustments to pump, etc. They aren’t “set it and forget it”-type electronics, from my understanding. So docs make periodic adjustments for bolus, insulin tolerance, etc.

Well, this changes my opinion on this whole affair. RIP Kristina.

In the article linked above, his mom stated there was extra insulin in the fridge so they don’t know if he has any or how much. Still doesn’t explain why he would have taken the pump off.

"Logan's glasses were also left in the home, and a*locksmith was also called to open a locked car that has been in the driveway since the two disappeared.

Despite their wallets being gone, Campbell-Mott said there has been no activity on either's bank or credit cards."

Locked car in the driveway?*

This case just keeps getting stranger, even as investigators move closer to uncovering what happened!

Oh my, I just got the message on the news. How terribly sad!

"Front door was wide open and the house had been gone through and the weapons were missing," she told News4Jax, adding that a detective told her no traces of blood were found inside, and the family dog was inside the home unharmed.

Logan's glasses were also left in the home, and a locksmith was also called to open a locked car that has been in the driveway since the two disappeared.

Despite their wallets being gone, Campbell-Mott said there has been no activity on either's bank or credit cards.
...
Campbell-Mott, who lives in Missouri, said Logan's father got a text from French Tuesday, saying she was going to pick the couple up at the airport.

“We don't know for certain if that was her or not at this point,” Campbell-Mott said.

French's last social media post was Friday on Facebook. Police have been tracking both of their social media accounts throughout the investigation.

Logan's Instagram is public, and his last post, on Sept. 11, was a photo of the beach. His Facebook page is private, only showing his profile picture and a post on July 4 of a dog with a quote. Friends of Mott on social media said it appears his SnapChat has been deactivated.

So maybe those texts were bogus after all.

Locked car in the driveway that they're JUST NOW getting unlocked? Wtf?

Yes, all he would have needed is the insulin vial and needles. He most likely would have had additional insulin vials already, because the vial in the pump gets changed every few days (depends on how much is used).

The pump delivers a set amount of insulin constantly, and then when the person eats, they tell the pump to give them a "bolus", an extra dose, based on approximating how many carbs they're eating or based on their doctor's instructions.

The pump remains on the person 24/7 because the idea is to regulate blood sugars. Typically normal blood sugars run around 65-110. Most people are able to regulate their own to stay within that frame. So the idea of the pump is to regulate the person's blood sugars by constant low dosing so they don't experience huge highs and lows.

Type 1 diabetics are more likely to experience the dramatic swings than Type 2s, since the Type 1 essentially produces no insulin on their own.

It sounds like there are no known reasons why Logan's pump would have been taken off.

Thanks for the excellent explainer, Mz!! ❤️

Just thinking out loud/ MOO and all:

Possible explanation of why the pump was left behind. Logan killed and buried Kristina. He is dirty and sweaty- takes off pump to shower (see my previous post several pages back- my grandson has one) gets out of shower and realizes he needs to vacate the premises pronto- in his haste he leaves without it.

@meanmaryjean well that would fit with the fact that he wasn’t wearing his glasses either.

Logan lived in that house. Taking the guns out of the safe, okay, but why would he need to ransack it? He knew where everything was. The only reason I can think of is for staging. (And this post is assuming Logan was his grandmother’s killer which is JUST a possibility, and I’m totally open to all other theories still).

Logan's mom stated that they always stockpiled insulin in the refrigerator so maybe he has some with him. I still don't know if Logan did this. It just feels wrong, but crazy things happen everyday. It's still possible that they were taken hostage and Kristina killed. Why would Logan leave without his glasses?
Then from day 1, the Jax news found it odd that the FBI wasn't called in, insinuating that it may have been a domestic situation.
On the other hand, I don't know of one teen that hasn't experienced angst and pressure in high school.
I'm so shocked and confused. But I guess mom's posts were telling lately.

Actually that would depend on how bad his eyesight was. I never go anywhere without my glasses. I don't even leave the bathroom after a shower without them.

Who's car was in the driveway? There is at least one unknown person involved.

1:15 pm yesterday LE found video of Logan and the car in Pennsylvania.

They think he has a week's supply of insulin.
