There is a detachment, coldness and sophistication to this whole thing that is very disturbing to me, and speaks to a seriously either ill or evil young man. First of all he was only 15, and he had the presence of mind to dig a shallow grave, wrap his grandmother in plastic and tape and bury her. Then this not even legal to drive 15-year-old boy steals a car and drives hundreds of miles from Florida to almost Canada, and even though they say his getting near the border was a mistake, that may have been his plan all along, again pretty sophisticated for a 15 year old who has never killed before.

I mean, obviously it wasn’t the perfect crime because he got caught, but either he was in some robotic trance or he really doesn’t have any remorse in order to have executed the coverup and his escape.

If, and that’s a big if, the nanny’s account is true, that starts to explain a lot.

His father tried to make him a man in his own image when he was still just a little boy. I would say a very, controlling man.

I totally agree that Dad's hitting him and leaving red marks is abusive.

But I am not sure that having him run as punishment is automatically abusive. When I played sports in school, I had track coaches and ski team coaches that made us all run, and many, including myself, would throw up at the start of the season.

Dad was in the service and then Law enforcement, for most of his life. Running and doing push ups as punishment is natural to him. I don't know that it is abusive, in every circumstance.

We don't know what the situation was. Maybe he came home and his son had done something very seriously wrong. What does a father do as punishment these days?

If I found out that a 12 or 13 yr old had stolen from Mom's wallet, or played with his fathers weapon or stolen from someone, and I then saw the father out at a track, 'forcing' the kid to run until he couldn't run anymore---I don't think I would see it as abusive.

I totally understand those that feel it is abusive. I guess I just weigh it against those parents who do little or nothing when they see their kids going down the wrong path at 12 or 13.

And Dad worked in the jails. The last thing he wanted was to see his son end up in there someday. Sadly, his fears have come to fruition...:jail:
BBM. That was not being made to run to punish you, though. You would not have been doing it with the same mind frame. Training as the means to an end. Not running until you could run no more as punishment for something. And the punishments he handed out to grown men in the service and in prison, were for men, not children.

Well, they did actually make us run as punishment many times.

Late for practice? One lap per minute late...etc

In documents from the Florida Department of Children and Families obtained by News4Jax, Logan Mott told investigators that his father used "severe discipline" and even once, when the boy was 12, made him run until he vomited.

Grandmother who ran her granddaughter to death sentenced to life in prison
May 11, 2015
Savannah Hardin was in trouble for lying about some candy she took from a classmate. As punishment, her grandmother told the 9-year-old to run.
Across the street that day, according to court testimony, neighbors Chad and Jolie Jacobs watched with increasing concern as Savannah ran for more than three hours, with her 50-year-old grandmother shouting: “I didn’t tell you to stop!”As the punishment continued, and Savannah was later ordered to run while carrying firewood sticks, the neighbors assumed that the elementary school student was getting an occasional respite. But that wasn’t true, and by the time the neighbors attempted to intervene, at about 6:30 that evening, Savannah was on the ground, vomiting, as her grandmother shouted: “Get up! I better not have to tell you again!”

In 2014, police were called out to the home by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) regarding a possible child abuse case, according to police reports.
The mother, who reportedly lived out of state, told DCF that the child had bruises on his buttocks, neck/throat and other areas of his body. The child's name is redacted from the report.
The child told police his father spanked him with a belt in the past, left "heavy red marks on his body" and that his dad made him do six-inch killers and run long distances until he threw up, according to the report.

I wonder if there is video of this hearing anywhere?
I'd like to see his body language.

This is interesting. No blood was found in either home, just on the knife.
Where did you read that? I couldn't find it. Ty

I'm thinking the shooting must have been inside the home...surely neighbors
would have heard gun fire if outside?

Maybe the blood wasn't visible to the naked eye? he took time to bury her body so maybe a clean up that only forensics could detect?

We don't know yet that these allegations of abuse against Logan's father have any truth to them. Logan might well be a liar as well as a murderer.

Many people might not believe what he suffered was abuse. Sad but true.
And why wasn't he removed from his Dad's home especially since his mother
wanted him back? And because LM wasn't happy.

What happened is horrible tragedy. Sadly when it comes to children and custody disputes, the grass is almost always greener on the other side. Do we know the abuse actually occured? Just wondering because I hadn't noticed any proof of the allegations, other than what appears to be an incredibly ugly ongoing custody dispute. In cases such as this there's often no real sharing of truthfulness, for example if LM was rebellious because, generally speaking, the hostile party has a tendency to turn information such as that against the custodial parent.

So even though the dad has been literally tarred and feathered with blame, I wonder if that's jumping to conclusions. If so, I respect him for not speaking out in defense of himself, knowing how the media gravitates towards the opportunity of sensationalizing family feuds.

My mind flits towards the question of what occurs as a result of a mixture of recreational drugs and diabetes - and the possibility of it provoking psychotic, delusional and violent behaviour. Age 15 is often a typical age that many young people chose to experiment even though their home situation may be entirely healthy and satisfactory. JMO

Good points and I agree. I too respect that he has kept his thoughts and words to himself or to an attorney.

After reading the nanny's description
of LM walking down the hall carrying a knife like a torch, it may be LM's attorneys will use the "sleepwalking" defense.
