GUILTY FL - Lakeland girl, 14, charged with killing newborn son, 19 Sept 2012

I agree what she did was horrible and wrong. I certainly do not think she should be let off. But I don't agree with her being tried as an adult. I think she was in a desperate situation, with nobody to turn to. I can't say this act means that she is a sociopath who will never be able to lead a productive life, without compassion, maturity and remorse.

I agree, I don't think she should be tried as an adult. Normally in murder cases I do think they should, and I am fine with the death penalty for underage killers as well but this situation is different. I haven't read anything that makes her sound like a danger to society.

The girl was under a tremendous amount of stress, it isn't like she killed a neighbor down the street for fun or axed a family member for an x-box. Culling a newborn in a situation like this does not automatically make someone a dangerous sociopath, fact is humans have a long long history of it.

:furious:

So her son's life means nothing? She's not a threat to her own future children? I can not believe how anyone can stick up for this murderous *****!

Rape has a long long history as well, as does many other things that are wrong. Are you going to stick up for those? Please don't tell me you want to start teaching our children that it's alright to murder your infant child!

She knew she was pregnant and she knew she was going to murder her child! It wasn't a spur of the moment thought! She planned to murder her child!

So the next time a teen is under stress it is ok to murder an innocent baby??? How is her babys life different from the neighbour down the street???? She took someones life!!!!! Being under stress is not a reason to kill. She murdered her newborn with her bare hands, it doesnt matter if she was stressed or not. We all have stress, our actions on how we handle stress tells you what type of person you are. In this case, this teen needs some serious help if this is how she handles stress....tried as an adult or juvenile....she obviously needs some serious help on how to handle stress.

*sarcasm alert*

Of course it isn't her fault. People aren't responsible for their own choices anymore. It's somebody else's fault. So what if she's 14? She probably didn't KNOW that stabbing her baby with scissors 32 times while in the birth canal and then strangling the life out of his helpless little body was a "bad" thing.

Let's blame it on her mom. Let's blame it on her teachers. Anyone but the person who actually committed the murder.

/end sarcasm.

Sorry but it's BS. Some crimes transcend age of reason. Whatever is wrong with this girl CANNOT be fixed and she poses a danger to any future children she might have and God know who else.

That may be harsh, but so is her unspeakable crime.

Respectfully BBM

Sonya, I hope you know I have total respect for you as a poster, but.....

Whaaaaa?

I think what this girl did to her baby is equally as depraved and sociopathic. Something in her is irreparably broken and dangerous. :(

I totally get what you are saying with your "sarcasm". Some people have the need to find someone else to blame. It was the teen who did this with her bare hands, seeing that she is a minor, she is the responsibility of the parent. It is the parents responsibility to look after and care for the well being on their minor children. This 14yr old is a danger as she has shown everyone how she handles stress....where the parent was during this "stressful" time is beyond me...they pair of them need some serious help.

When a cat kills her kittens no one says the cat is evil; folks say "something just wasn't right" and that is the truth. It means something wasn't right with the cat, the kittens, etc...

I don't think comparing animal and human behavior is fitting. Animals act primally with no ability to reason. This girl didn't ask for help because she planned to kill this baby,32 scissor wounds to the head as well as strangling the life out of him as he was still attached to via his umbilical cord which was his life force! How a creature with the ability to REASON (sorry, cats may make good pets but have no sense of reason or logic) can do this points to the fact that this creature is depraved.

I think this girl deserves a chance to get treatment for whatever mental problems she has. And I dare say she has a few that desperately need attention.

Perhaps it's because my own volatile-natured girl is just this age... I see how she struggles with stress and just her own emotional energy. But she has a loving mother who talks to her, listens (okay, I might tune out some of the whining, but I listen when it counts!)...

We don't know her, what the true situation was at home day to day, what mental issues she has or doesn't have... And I don't think anyone is in the position to know whether she was an evil psychopath or a young girl in agony with no support, abuse homelife, who just wanted a very frightening problem (in her eyes) to go away.

We just don't know.

I guess my kneejerk reactions in this case tend to compassion for the child, and the hope she can one day live a normal life and know what joy and peace are. There's many years ahead of her yet. Who knows what goodness and compassion for others she might find in herself?

It's heartbreaking all round. One tiny life lost, one young life ruined.. possible another, if the father gives a damn.

Where in HECK were the adults for these children? If we're talking being accountable -- I doubt that 14 yr old child woke up one day and decided to be a baby killer. Where were the adults stepping up to make sure she was okay, rather than doing F-ALL to help her?

Yes, her baby is dead at her own hand, and horribly, it's just a nightmare tragedy. But wow -- I find the damnation she is getting, the hopeless view of her future, the severe anger toward a child that was --let down very badly -- by all adults around her kind of extreme.

Not saying she should not be punished for her crime. Just that we don't know why she did it, what made her that way, and that she deserves a little bit of hope that the rest of her life might not be a wasteland of sadness and suffering.

Just my opinion. I could cry for both child-mother and dead child..

And hey, I wish I could see inside this girl's head and soul so I could say for sure that she CANNOT be fixed, or CAN be fixed, or whatever, etc.

But I guess I wasn't around when they handed out omniscience.

I believe its male cats that are dangerous to kittens. Female cats are very good mothers. Some have risked their own lives to save their kittens.

NOBODY said this baby's life meant nothing. NOBODY has said she should not be punished. Who are we to say there is no hope for this girl? This crime could have been prevented. There is a reason children have parents. These parents failed her, as did any other adult who suspected she was pregnant and did nothing about it.
She is NOT an adult, she is 10 years away from having the mind of an adult.
I am tired of posters twisting these thoughts into meaning that the baby's life was worth nothing and the girl should get a slap on the wrist. Nobody has once ever stated this in this thread.

How long did she stay in the hospital?

I thought she was treated and released. I had a D&C at almost 5 months and I was only at the hospital for about 8 hours. I do not believe they performed a D&C on her.

But they thought she was raped because of all the injuries she did to herself. Police was called. I am not so sure they would have send her straight back home.

I do think this crime compares to walking down the street and killing your neighbor. Totally different set of circumstances.
I think she was a lot more than "stressed".
I am not at all surprised she did not know how to deal with her emotions, she didn't exactly have great role models.
CG made the decision to kill her baby. She should be punished for that. But I cannot ignore all of the other circumstances that in my opinion led her to this place.

They treated her, she refused to talk to police or social workers. I don't think she was even admitted.

No, it's not the fault of parents if a child murders. <modsnip>. You think I give a damn about what kind of life she had? Nothing that was done to her or said to her justifies her murdering her child.

The only reason anyone is defending her is because she murdered her own infant baby and that just makes me sick. She does not deserve to ever see the light of day again.

All I see is people defending the murderer and trying to put blame on every one else. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING gave her the right to murder her child! The baby is the victim not her.

As I said, SHE made the decision to kill her baby. She did not have a right to do that. And her parents certainly should carry SOME of the blame. They absolutely should. Because they could have prevented this.
<modsnip> I don't even think people are defending her, just defending her being tried as an adult. The facts are the facts. Like the fact that she is a child, and the fact that her mother completely ignored her pregnancy even when other concerned people brought it to her attention, the fact that she delivered this baby for two hours while her mother was practically in the next room, and the fact that she killed her child.
No one here has forgotten about this baby who never got a chance at life.
<modsnip>. I understand some people feel that way, it's all black and white and she should be put away for the rest of her life regardless of the circumstances. I have my own opinion so we will just have to agree to disagree.

<modsnip> more innocent people will suffer by the hands of those who should have been dealt with permanently in the first place.

If you purposefully take the life of another then there should be no second chances. Why should they get a second chance when the one(s) they murdered will never have that opportunity?

I noticed one of the comments recently said that C has an 'instagram' account and has posted pictures of herself and her boyfriend....I'm not a member and don't think we should post anything from it here, but just to say that a teenager who is that knowledgeable about the internet and posting sites, is certainly capable of searching for resources to help her in her pregnancy situation. Understand the school would not let various pregnancy-help resources give out material there, but she apparently had other means....I do not believe her decision to get rid of the baby has anything to do with ignorance of other resources....she even stated so herself to the LE but this is further proof to me.....

Yes, I agree she needs treatment and help to deal with what she has done, but to me that is after the fact of the justice process......she knew right from wrong and cold bloodedly decided what to do all by herself....let her sit for a while and think about it and realize how serious it is to take a life......
