GUILTY FL - Lakeland girl, 14, charged with killing newborn son, 19 Sept 2012

  • #161
I have heard both, the sister was shunned and the parents stood by her, so I don't know. NG says this girl had a supportive family who does not understand why she didn't turn to them(no idea what her source is), but how could this supportive family not have known? The level of denial her mother displays-how supportive could she have been? The relatives told her, it was all over the school, this girl is 5'3" and 100 lbs. How do they not notice that this child is pregnant?
I don't know if the girl was in denial or not. She could have correctly taken both pregnancy tests-they both would have been negative because after the second trimester those HCG levels drop. The police report stated she had not told the father. I can't remember if she told any friends, but did read that some of her friends knew.

ETA-just read the police report again, she did know she was pregnant.

It was interesting listening to NG last night, a few times she said that when she first heard the story she was on the girl's side, until she heard about the damage to the baby's head (which she assumed were the result of a beating) - when she first heard about the case I don't know if NG knew he was strangled or not. She did know he was killed by his mother. The Sheriff told her that they believe these injuries were from the scissors as the girl tried to get the baby out. He seemed torn, stating "she is a child". He seemed very upset about the case.

Excuses, excuses. That's all I'm hearing.

The girls mother ordered her daughter to take a pregnancy test. Why? What made her think the daughter was pregnant? What did the daughter tell her? When her daughter gained weight and then started wearing heavy sweaters during a heatwave, couldn't her mother, or father, put two and two together? How stupid are they?

I guess that explains why the daughter was born without one brain cell in her head. The girl knew she would be giving birth yet, apparently, she didn't have ANY kind of a plan in place. What kind of idiot doesn't think about what's going to happen next? So then, at the last moment she runs into the bathroom and uses scissors on the newborn! Duh!

All I can think about is the suffering that poor, defenseless baby must have gone through. As he's squeezing his tiny body out the birth canal trying to come into the world, he finds himself being stabbed in the head. Hello ... babies DO feel pain, just as we all do. He WAS suffering. Imagine if that kind of torture was being inflicted on you. And by your own mother, no less. And while you're suffering from all blows and stab wounds, your mother starts to wring your neck! What must THAT feel like?

Stabbing, suffering, strangling, blunt force trauma- these are NOT just words. These are actual feelings that a helpless newborn suffered. That baby is the victim here.

As far as I'm concerned, that young girl needs to be punished for the life she took and for inflicting that kind of pain on a newborn. And the girl's mother (and probably her father, too) should be charged with neglect, because obviously they didn't even notice her for months on end.

Yes, I'm outraged and horrified at this family. AND I'm tired of all the excuses because there aren't any that can excuse what happened here.

I don't think anyone is in disagreement about that. I think the disagreement is in whether or not she's salvageable herself, a victim herself, and if she should be treated as an adult even though she is a child who most likely thinks like a child.

Respectfully snipped.

Of course she deserves to be punished. That's why she should be dealt with by the juvenile courts, they are the body charged with dealing with juveniles who make horrible and immature decisions which have terrible consequences.

Its not an excuse to say she doesn't belong in an adult court, that's simply the reality.

I agree, I don't think anyone has forgotten that she killed an innocent baby, her baby. I just don't think she should be tried as an adult.

A bit OT but I wonder when she turned 14. I could have sworn that on the 911 tape the aunt said CG was 13.

I'm baffled by the excuses as well. But then again every day our society becomes less and less about accountability. No wonder the world is so backwards.

This is on NG now, if anyone is interested.
Per the 911 call, when the girl was brought to the hospital, police were called because they thought she had been "brutally, brutally raped", but the girl denied this, refused to talk to social workers.

What excuses? Nobody is excusing her for what she did.

People thought she was pregnant and she denied it, apparently to the extent of falsifying pregnancy tests.

People thought she had been raped, "but the girl denied this"..... something very material to this case hasn't been answered here. How did she get pregnant? The fact that she's denying rape doesn't mean a damn thing, because she denied pregnancy too.

Further investigation needed on that issue definitely, lest a child rapist be let free to wander around finding other young girls to prey on.

Probably because she jammed scissors up her hoo-ha. She wasn't raped. Also delivering a 9lb 4 ounce baby probably did involve vaginal tearing.

Last night they said they had a "very good idea" who the father was.

ITA. She used scissors to pry the baby out, by her own admission.
A miscarriage wouldn't have left those injuries. So they though she was raped.

And getting pregnant probably involved someone having sex with her. Do we know who? Do we know under what circumstances?

<modsnip>

None of us knows yet what happened. Maybe she was raped, and maybe she wasn't. Her denials aren't reliable, because she denied being pregnant too and look how truthful that turned out to be.

She wasn't raped at the time she was in the hospital for her "miscarriage." Her injuries were not due to rape but due to her using scissors to pry out the baby.

Her pregnancy wasn't caused by a pair of scissors, and it wasn't caused all by herself either. It was caused by someone having sex with a 14, (or possibly 13 at the time), year old girl.

Who is he, and how old is he? That's what I want to know.

Any 14 yr old in FL who is/was pregnant, was raped, under the current definition of the law.

Do I think some kind of punishment should be given? Yes I do, but I want that punishment to be tempered by WHO got the child pregnant, WHY she was so unable to admit it to anyone, and WHY her mother didn't seek medical care for her, before this horrendous act happened.

Thanks JJenny, I'm glad someone understood the logic. <modsnip>

Since we were discussing why when she arrived at the hospital for her supposed miscarriage, hospital called police with claims that she was raped, that is neither here nor there.
