Police believe Sean McGuinness was searching for flying discs in the lake at John S. Taylor Park when he died.

Authorities have identified Sean McGuinness, 47, as the man whose body was spotted near an alligator in the lake of a Largo park Tuesday.

McGuinness was found dead around 8 a.m. Tuesday by a person walking their dog near the shoreline of Taylor Lake in John S. Taylor Park, 1100 Eighth Ave. SW in Largo.

This just blows me away. He knew the danger. Nothing is ever worth going into a Florida pond for, never, ever. If you lose your wallet, you get a boat and a net. You never wade in. You never let kids or pets wade in. Alligators are not the only deadly creature. Water moccasins / cottonmouth snake nests. Amoeba bacteria that can get into the tiniest cut and kill you. Go swim in the ocean or a pool, float in a moving spring at the state park. Stay the heck outta ponds.

Through a public records request, Spectrum Bay News 9 obtained communication reports from Largo Police that showed the park ranger tried to have McGuinness officially trespassed from the area one month before his death.

On April 11, McGuinness was seen going into the water around noon trying to retrieve discs and was warned against doing it, one report said, noting that he did not heed the warning.

Largo man drowned after alligator attack, medical examiner says

The body of Sean McGuinness, 47, was found floating in Taylor Lake on May 31. He was missing both of his arms and one leg.

Now, more than three months after his death, a Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner’s Office report has determined Sean McGuinness, 47, drowned after an alligator attack.

The autopsy also found cocaine in McGuinness’ body.
