@pikachu1322 What comments about a neighbor have you seen here on this thread?

The maintenance man/neighbor...not exactly sure how he was classified. In any case, I have seen several comments that are complete speculation that he might be involved for no other reason than that she talked to him and said she was trying to get out of a bad situation.

Glad you joined us @pikachu1322! Are you local to the area? You have valid concerns. And I think I've shared some of the same. WS's TOS include rules about not "sleuthing" anyone who has not been determined by LE to be a POI. I've read quotes from LE which have mentioned that they would not rule out anyone they've talked to as beimg a suspect, but I also don't recall them clearly stating that any specific individual actually IS a POI. So any time I've made reference to LD's dad, BF, or even maintenance man, I've tried to be sure to point out that the info I share has been nothing more than my opinion. ...but then People's Opinions are possibly exactly what you're referring to.
I think though that the general concern you have about why people haven't shared more information on the case, likely isn't intended to express concern about why locals with information havent shared that info directly to this web site. I get that. I hope no one actually expects that though. Its not uncommon for "sleuthers" here to express frustration at the lack of information the general public has available. (Generally this is because LE actually does a good job of not sharing anything more than they really need to.) I would hope that any info a private individual might share with LE would be kept confidential by LE, or would at least be shared as originating from an anonymous party. ...as long as the RP reports their info to LE & not to the media.

Also though, I may have skimmed thru the discussion thread on this case too quickly. I don't recall mention of a neighbor. Any chance you (or anyone else) can bring me up to speed on him?

I am not from the area, but I think speculating that the handyman wanted to stay anonymous because he is somehow involved is not in any way helpful and in general if someone is going to be considered suspicious just for having contact with the person it makes people in any case far less likely to come forward.

I remember reading on here about the girl in salt lake city that was murdered after being dropped off by an Uber driver to meet someone at a park, and I thought the very rampant speculation he had to be involved was extremely unhelpful.

Well, this is Websleuths and speculation is our specialty. Perhaps you are not clear on the purpose of this site. This isn’t some random Facebook page that operates on unfounded rumors. This forum is meant to help, not undermine specific persons. That’s why the terms of service (TOS) are so strict. No one has named him as per TOS. There are a lot of journalists and LE that follow Websleuths. Sometimes a member actually helps solve a case.

TYVM for the clarification. To my knowledge from the msm articles posted, Lauren made that comment to the person she saw at the park on June 18. The only msm mention of the maintenance man was that he saw Lauren at her apartment at 8:15 am on June 19.

Why in the world would the BF say she was off doing drugs with the wrong people?
Did she have a history of doing that? Or did she usually do drugs with the right people?

This post was upthread
Didn't her boyfriend initially say the reason he didn't report her missing right away was because he thought she was off with someone "getting messed up" or something to that effect? Essentially implying she had relapsed. Yet now, he says she wasn't using drugs....hmmmm.

I had to go back through the thread, but I found the article where he was quoted saying her friend had gotten her all messed up on drugs.

Has the boyfriend been named as a POI?

Thanks for the response. You may very well be correct that Maintenance Guy isn't involved but, as others have already stated, speculating what we do here. I dont think the maintenance guy (can we just call him MG?) is necessarily suspicious only due to his wanting to remain anonymous though. I feel like some of us are simply struggling to make sense of the comments he's made, or even why he made them at all if he truly did want to remain anonymous. I believe LE has stated themselves that they have talked with many people about this case and, while there isn't anyone that they're naming as a POI, there isn't anyone of them that they would completely rule out either. So if they're not ruling anyone out, I'm certainly not going to either.

On June 24, police deemed Lauren’s disappearance “suspicious” and the status was changed to missing person endangered

Deemed “suspicious” & changed status to missing persons endangered due to __??
I totally agree but do we know exactly what LE’s reason to change LD’s status at that point (on June 24) vs let’s say, after they found the shirt?

Not to say there’s truth in it.
Not to say there’s not.
But if you search Above & Beyond Ancestor Readings on YouTube you may find an interesting video, or you may find a bunch of rubbish...depending on your opinion.

I’m not a big believer in card readings but I did it listen to that. If her belief is Lauren is still in the city surrounded by yellow flowers. The only yellow flowers blooming in SWFL summers would be marigolds, the Mexican Sunflower, yellow peanut Ground cover usually planted in highway medians and day lilies. Also, a round area of water by a bridge I can’t imagine what that would be. All the bridges pass over waterways which are not generally round.

Retention ponds can be round and man made ponds on peoples rural properties are generally round or oval. For example, look at Lake Trafford in Immokalee out east. It has a dock at Ann Olesky Park.

As far as a female being involved, I’m still thinking her mother knows more than is being said. While a woman most certainly can be involved, it is my suspicion, that woman would need physical help to move a body.

@Finlay would you please show me where it says the maintenance man made anonymous comments? Please refer to page 12 and 13 of this thread. The anonymous man and the maintenance man are 2 separate people.

@Finlay would you please show me where it says the maintenance man made anonymous comments? This article from page 7 states "a man" Police work to trace Cape Coral woman's suspicious disappearance
We saw police canvassing the area and passing out fliers.

A man we saw talking to police didn’t want to be interviewed on the record but told us that the day before, Lauren asked him about available apartments, saying she “wanted to get out of the situation she was in.”

He said he again saw her the next day, on June 19, around 8 a.m. and waved at her as she was walking along the route from the park to her apartment.

Lauren’s boyfriend, Gabriel Pena, was one of the last people to see her. He claims he said goodbye to her that mysterious Friday morning before he went to work around 6 a.m.

Later that day, he confirmed a maintenance worker saw her at her apartment complex off Coronado Parkway around 8:15 a.m.

Please note Gabriel said the maintenance worker saw Lauren. Please also note the maintenance worker never said anything.

Here’s several posts mentioning the maintenance guy. I know one of them is where I asked if the witness and maintenance guy were the same.
A couple posts state he said he saw her one day and then again around 8ish the next day. I think that’s how people were putting it together that the two are the same person.

Police work to trace Cape Coral woman's suspicious disappearance

A man talking to police didn’t want to be interviewed on the record but stated that the day before (June 18), Lauren asked him about available apartments, saying she “wanted to get out of the situation she was in.”

He said he again saw her the next day, on June 19, around 8 a.m. and waved at her as she was walking along the route from the park to her apartment.

If this is true, then that puts her coming from the park at 8am on June 19.

There’s a witness who says she asked him about apartments on Thursday, June 18.
Then the same witness says he saw her again on Friday, June 19 at 8am. He waved at her as she was coming from the park back to her apartment.

•How credible is this witness? I’m not sure, but it sounds realistic to me.

Then a different article stated a maintenance worker saw her on Friday, June 19 at 8:15am walking to her apartment.

•Is this maintenance worker the same as unidentified witness above or a totally different person? If different, then that makes her heading to her apartment Friday morning even more probable, IMO.

Then there’s the phone call at 10am that LE stated was the last bit of activity on her phone & it came from within her apartment as she (or someone) attempted to contact the boyfriend through FB.

•Was it Lauren who used her phone at 10am Fri or was it someone else at the apartment?
Why didn’t the boyfriend answer? Does he normally answer her calls when he’s at work? Has LE verified he was at work that morning during that time frame (6-10ish am)?

Lauren could have been coming from her mom's and not the park.

Thanks for the reply - it's very strange - my gut feels like the maintenance guy knows more - why would he want to be interviewed off the record if there was nothing odd, I mean, you wouldn't care whether it was on the record if you had nothing to hide, would you? He would have access to their apartment, he would know the area, who the boyfriend is - like you say - he could have the ability to make a misleading call - but that would depend on the phone - I assume that Lauren's phone would have some sort of security before accessing it like a password etc - which then takes it back to someone who knows her such as the boyf!

So is this JUST the unnamed witness on these two occasions?

I’m sure @Magz (and many others) will agree that we need to make sure we have all our info down correctly. I know it gets confusing at times, especially as the thread gets larger and more info is being presented.:confused:

Please note the date of this article is June 30 and updated July 13. The NBC2 article that has Gabriel mentioning the maintenance worker is dated August 10.

If you think about the fact that Gabriel made this statement, then how do we even know that the maintenance worker even exists.
