Hi, I'm new here, so forgive my "newbie" skills. I joined this group because this case is really bothering me. I'm a mom myself. The poor little boy and his young mom... what could have happened? I live in South Florida and saw the first reports on the news and was heartbroken for the family. This area is a hotspot for human trafficking and that would explain an abrupt departure and the long drive. She may have been groomed and lied to by a trafficker. I'm wondering if anyone is looking for her on escort sites?

Human trafficking is something some of us have considered in this case, hoping that police have been checking into some of those escort sites.

This is why I don’t think she “just took off in the night”
as stated by her Father.

I think she had made plans with someone she had been talking to for her to move to Fl for employment or a relationship.
She probably wanted a SUV or the Truck especially for that purpose.

If Cavetts family hadn’t talked to her for two weeks prior to her “up and leaving” they were not involved in her everyday life while she was trying to support herself and Kamdyn.

“Cavett’s family told reporters they last spoke to her about two weeks ago.”

“I FaceTimed her on July 17. We were on the phone for about an hour and she was fine,” one of the sisters said. “She didn’t have any plans to come to Florida, so we’re very confused right now.”

Is it unusual for the family to have to go through the courts to get custody of the child? It's such a randomly bizarre case, I'm just not sure what's normal and what's not?

"The Hollywood Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Leila Cavett

If you have any information on Leila’s whereabouts, please contact the Hollywood Police Department."

Could that sound any less urgent? Weird!

Perhaps they are trying to not scare off a possible perp?

Or perhaps they think she is alive and don't want to scare her off?

At this point, LE must have a pretty good idea of Leila's travels yet they are not being forthcoming with the public about it...I assume with good reason. What is that good reason?

then who did Leila talk to?
Who are her friends?
There would be someone, a friend that she talks to daily about things going on in her life, her plans, job opportunities, love interests, etc?
I would think there would be a friend that knew her plan about the Florida trip or the Florida move.

Left from where abruptly? If she had no address and was staying NOWHERE how could she leave from nowhere abruptly?

Imo, probably the same reason this happens in endless other cases, to “buy time”.

I'm guessing they have to determine the appropriate next of kin. DNA test for dad and whether the home is stable. The sisters also seem to want custody of him. Even grandad was talking about taking him in.

I remember in Savannah Greywind’s case, her boyfriend/SO had to take a DNA test before the baby was returned to him.

(Fetal Abduction, Savannah died but the baby lived. Per the latest update the father and baby have been reunited and are doing well.)

Are we assuming that the local police went all-out and got her entire digital footprint (phone + apps as far as we know)?

Sounds to me like they're using more traditional methods (wait and see if anyone calls in a tip).

Even if she did leave abruptly late at night/middle of night I don't think it is super odd. She may have been desperate for money or just really lonely/looking for love. If this person she was communicating with was persuasive enough I could see her just up and leaving suddenly. Maybe he had been trying to convince her to come down there for awhile and that night all the pieces fell into place and she took him up on it. We have no idea what was going on inside her mind or how much she was struggling. Being desperate will make you do things your better judgement would tell you not to do. She is incredibly young, appears to have lacked stability in her life, and had a toddler to support. It doesn't surprise me she might make decisions that outsiders with a stable life might view as weird or risky. Now I am even more convinced she was lured down there with the promise of a stable life; whether that be totally uprooting her life and moving there permanently or just visits where she was paid to be "a date". I lean towards the former. Someone preyed on her vulnerabilities and I fear it cost Leila her life. I hope I am wrong. All jmo.
